Hey, I'm in the market right now for a gaming laptop and I'm here after weeks of looking into several brands and their models.

After looking at ASUS, Acer, GIGABYTE and a few others, I've decided that I'd prefer an MSI or an Alienware but I'm not sure exactly which one to settle on. I realize that Alienware is criticized for their overpricing on products, but I also hear that their build quality is superior to other brands. Additionally, a few hundred dollars isn't that much of an effect on my wallet.

    The two models that I'm considering are the MSI GE62MVR 7RG-043CA w/ a GTX 1070, and the Alienware 15 R3 with a 1070.

Is there anyone out there that might have experience with both brands and could help me to choose a winner?

PUBG on MSI GE62MVR 7RG-004CA Apache Pro
    MSI GE62MVR 7RG-004CA Apache Pro Gaming Notebook 15.6"(1920x1080), Intel i7-7700HQ, 16GB(8GB*2) DDR4, 256GB SSD+1TB HDD NVIDIA GeForce GTX1070,BT 4.1, VR Ready, Win10

There are some hits for the GE62MVR with 1070, but they aren't in English...

If it makes a difference, the Alienware 15 is HUGE. There is no reason to get it over a 17" notebook IMHO

    The MSI Size and weight
    Width 388 (15.2") x depth 265 (10.4") x height 27~31 (1.2")
    2.3 kg (5 lbs)

    Alienware 15 size and weight
    Height: 1 inch (25.4mm) | 2. Width: 15.3 inches (389mm) | 3. Depth: 12 inches (305mm) | Average Weight: 7.69 lbs (3.49 kg)*

To be honest I wouldn't get either though. Look into the MSI 16L13 for best 15" gaming laptop

Here's a long term review by @Phoenix of the MSI GT73VR 1080 to consider for input on living with an MSI gaming laptop:

MSI GT73VR Titan Pro Owner's Impressions after 9 months

"MSI laptops "just work"...that's to sum up my experience with this laptop...

Do I wish I can get back to the LGA scene? hell yes, when there is something worthy that has what I want, good keyboard, good screen, good cooling with no flimsy heatsinks...."

I would probably go MSI due to all the issues Alienware has with their thermals right now. Such a shame because I think it's one of the best looking notebooks on the market right now.

That being said, I wouldn't go with an Apache. They are phasing them out and already have the new model that replaces them. Check out the GE63vr Raider.

MSI likes to have lots of different models, and usually add's rather than subtract's variety, and that's how it is with the Apache (remaining in the line) and the Raider (adding to the line).

Here's a fairly recent attempt at describing the in's and out's of MSI's model naming :)

Interesting, that's news to me - I don't see anything about it listed anywhere, thanks for the heads up. Maybe they meant this particular Apache model series, MSI refreshes them occasionally, and the 8th generation Intel models should be showing up soon. :)
