    Thanks!
I have gone to some stores, but all I found was HP, Sony, Toshiba, and Acer. I wanted to come and look at some less well known brands such as MSI, Compal, Asus, etc.

Nothing more MSI for our family. A very bad experience with the MSI 1029/M635 and MSI warranty support is enough for one lifetime. Saving a buck to buy junk that is inadequately supported isn't going to give one good value for the money spent! Our time has value too and wasting countless hours on the $2000.00+ CDN purchase with 4 returns to MSI in the first 8 months and 4 troubleshooting sessions/3 reinstalls due to a now documented MSI glitch is not good value. You may have no problems, but it is certainly a gamble with MSI.

I have a MSI 1057 and it's considerably good and I'll rate it 8/10.. probably because i still don't have any major problems that i have to contact MSI itself.... well overall it's fine but like most people said the keyboard is a lil too flexible and my integrated wireless network card seems to be a little weak in receiving signal... anything other than these are fine...

i did the same wondering if i should buy the 17" msi i found for $1299aud or not and stick to the smaller and couple hundred more expencive Asus i have been eyeing for a while and i wish to god i had known more abou laptops before i brought my optima, yes it has been good and the tech was awesome when the hdd packed it in for the first time, but its slow as hell because it's an amd (and thats my fault) and it's killing a second hard drive, this one has bad sectors. and what i really need is help deciding between the two, although knowing me i will not want to wait up to ten days for the MSI to be delivered so will prolly go the Asus i have been drooling over.

P.S. never going back to a desktop again and if you want a notebook that will sand up to coke being spilled on it get an optima this babies still going months later, it has sticky keys though.

hmm that puts me off weak wireless signal/ reciever wonder if the VR700 is like it

I own an MSI 1034. Very flimsy construction. Generic, cheap parts that are hard to get drivers for outside of windows. Some issues (repeating keys for some odd reason). Hard drive seems to be failing WAY ahead of schedule. Just cheap, shoddy construction all around.

Additionally, I had a structural defect at purchase. Getting MSI to honor my warrantee was neaqrly impossible. They even refused to SELL me the plastic part that needed replacing so I could fix it myself after they told me there was no way they would fix the laptop even if I paid them. Thankfully, a friendly retailer who I was not a customer of was able to slip my box in under an RMA, otherwise my MSI would be no more than a paperweight.

I will not buy MSI products again. ASUS is comparable in price and function and vastly superior in quality.

Poorly constructed $2100 paperweight for me.
Wanted something to download pics & vids on my 1st cruise year ago. Went
techie nuts (as usual) bought MS-1036 17", low power, fastest on planet...etc. COOOOL.
Well dont bang it at power connection point when plugged in!!!!!!!!!!!
(save money - throw it away at this point.)
Builder: citrus micro - Story: LOOOONG - Point: spent $320+ on repair, lasted a week, Citrus reply- have your battery checked???? system wont work without battery??????

Ressurected it lately (reason for this post) to try repair myself.
1: power connection not part of mobo
??? why 300$+ for mobo replacement????? - gee thanks Citrus Micro(NOT!)
2: want external charger for BTY-L71 battery - cant cross reference this battery as MSI laptops not listed at any sale sites (connection must! be correct) - for further testing
3: Found a site to purchase power connection circuit board (special order, $36 plus shipping) - do I keep spending money or give up?????
    4: now its a $2500 paperweight
