Not exactly a review, just some pics and thoughts of my MSI GT75VR 7RF.

    - Intel Core i7 7820HK
    - GTX 1080 VGA
    - 32Gb RAM
    - 512 Gb SSD
    - 120 Hz TN screen

    Box

    OS

The laptop comes with the latest Windows 10 version:

    Keyboard
    [IMG]

Mechanical keyboard made by Steelseries. It is good to the touch and the wrist support is also nice. Only con for me is that the keyboard lighting can not be changed and it is flashing like a Christmas tree all the time. I can turn it off but what is the meaning of backlight keyboard if I turn it off ?

    Screen

The screen is the same used in the GT73VR. Chi Mei CMN1747 120 Hz 5ms panel with G-Sync and 8-bit color depth.

    Temps & scores

I used this custom fan curve for the following results:

    Memory and networking

    Results:

Temps after 2 hours of Rise of the Tomb Raider gaming
    [IMG]

I do not post gaming results because it is the same as the GT73VR.

    Cooling

There are 2 differences inside which can catch people's attention.
    1) MSI did not bother this time to paint the components, everything is in it's original color
    2) there is an extra heatsink to cool some ICs on the motherboard to extend the GT75VR's lifespan

Maybe because of this extra heatsink, but GPU I had to run the GPU fan slightly higher (+5%) to get around the same results as I saw with the GT73VR.

    Power consumption
Highest power drawn from the wall socket while playing Rise of the Tomb Raider:

As you can see there are some minor differences compared to the GT73VR, but the biggest is the mechanical keyboard. Not counting this we might say that the GT75VR is a slightly "patched" GT73VR 1.1 version. Does this worth the extra $$$ ? You decide.

That picture on the left is from the 1070 GT73VR (7RE) not the 1080 (7RF); The heatsink and VRM heatsink are different. I mentioned this in several other posts already. You need the other picture if you want the 1080 version. Notebookcheck incorrectly used the 1070 picture on the 1080 review, probably assuming they were identical.

Some bizarre stuff in the EC firmware that isn't in the 73's one:
clearly related to that ESS Sabre Stuff, but why? How?

Gentech review of the 6RF with GTX1080:

    No extra heatsink there either.

You can change the RGB keyboard to whatever color you want. They don't need to be flashing all of the time.

Sorry OP. Yes, they are in the Steelseries app.

LOL. I couldn't imagine if the "disco" setting was the only back light available. Haha
