MSI GS63's CPU is stronger than the Aero 15x?

So I'm currently bench marking both laptops and it seems that although both machines have an identical chip (i7-8750), the MSI one is pulling ahead in CPU bench marks.

For example, on PCMark 10, the Aero 15x got a 5090 whereas the MSI got a 5166.

The MSI also got a 6132 in the Digital Content creation vs. the Aero 15x which got a 5804.

I'm a little bit puzzled - first of all, the Aero 15x is supposed to be a superior machine overall (Its true competitor should be the MSI GS65).

I'm deciding on which laptop to keep and I will be focusing more on video creation so results like these are a little bit worrisome.

Any reason why this is the case?

If both have similar temperatures then possibly the Aero has stricter throttling implementation. Try to monitor the throttling flags, power draw and temperatures to come up with a sound conclusion.

Your questions will be answered, if you run software that monitors the Ghz of the processors.

The Aero is clearly dropping to lower frequencies than the MSI.

Those scores are pretty close, overall. This could be down to one fan profile being more aggressive than the other. Or it could be a slight PL1/PL2 limit difference. Most machines worth their weight will let you adjust or disable limits in ThrottleStop and you could actually set both laptops to the exact same settings and then compare. At that point, it would come down to BIOS and overall cooling differences because you would know they are as similar as possible in every other way.

Just for grins, I ran the test on my 8750H - https://www.3dmark.com/pcm10/37048658?
