    Hi,

    I am currently considering several laptop for mostly professional use and a bit of gaming, so I'm looking for both power and decent autonomy.

    I am torn with the MSI GS63 and Dell XPS 15, what draws me a back a little bit from the first is the battery life, roughly 3 hours on web browsing is way too short for my use.

    But I saw that the new version has a slightly bigger battery and a less power-consuming CPU and GPU, so my question is how much more battery life is to be expected from this version, ?

    Thank you

    The XPS 15's large battery (6-cell, 84Wh) should be good for 6 or 7 hours of productivity work. Don't expect much from the GS63 - 4 hours is what you can expect. Honestly, MSI's laptops have never really had good battery life, I don't know why - even when they put in a 6-cell battery it just lags behind. Could be BIOS related. Some OEMs do better energy management than others. Tis' how it is.

    MSI should have discarded the slow 2.5" HDD slot in their GS63 and 73 and made the battery bigger (99Wh for travelling limits). All it needs is an M.2 NVME SSD and it'll reach the epitome of its performance while handling a fair amount of 5-6 hours of battery life.

    I received my XPS 15 FHD on Wednesday and will be sending it back this week....It has a bright white pixel spot on the display that is very noticeable on a light or coloured background, but disappears on a black background. The ghosting on the FHD panel is absolutely terrible and the GTX 1050 is defiantly not what I was hoping for. I tried to play the division on it using med settings and between the lower fps and ghosting it was a terrible experience. I am actually thinking about going with a GT62vr or GS63vr now, but am having trouble deciding between them.

    @Bouzigouloum

    with MSI, as great as their laptops are, their customer service sucks. Thus, I advice you to get it from a good reseller at leaset then they have your back should anything go wrong. HIDevolution for instance has direct contact with the MSI management so they are able to get things for you sorted faster should anything go wrong.

    I live in Canada, so it does not really make sense for me to go through a reseller in the States due to the dollar differences and the cross border shipping. I have owned two Alienwares, three XPS systems and one MSI GT70 2PC and only one of those computers made it through the warranty period without needing service. I really like Dell and recommend them to everyone, but they need to have better service because their quality control sucks.

    I understand, you do the maths how much more it would cost going with HIDevolution

    Also see their great warranty support here:

    As for Dell, I cannot count the amounts of posts / returns of the new laptops like the Alienware 17 R4 due to bad thermal paste jobs or excessive backlight bleeding. Seems they can never seem to fit a panel without a bezel that squeezes it tight causing this annoying back light bleeding. Yes they do have next business day warranty. but it's sad to need it on a new laptop and getting a technician who actually knows how to open the laptop and service it is a matter of luck.

    When I had an Alienware 18, they sent me a technician to replace the screen due to backlight bleeding and he was like experimenting on my system, didn't know what to remove first and ended up breaking the hinge so they gave me a new laptop, then it also had the same backlight bleeding, they replaced it with another laptop yet again as screen replacements weren't doing it and after the 3rd exchange, I finally got a good one but it was a pain to format and setup the laptop every week
