Moving to Asia and just ordered a T430s. Was this the right choice?

My laptop died and I needed a replacement to bring abroad. I'm moving to Vietnam in a week for work, and I've never been to Southeast Asia. The laptop was a little over budget at $930 shipped, and now I'm having second thoughts. I'm a freelance programmer so I bought it with productivity in mind (nice keyboard + screen resolution and the ability to add an ultrabay battery). And moving to a developing country made me consider durability and reliability. My girlfriend has a core 2 duo HP pavilion she'll be bringing and my father offered his old Sony Vaio, and now I'm wondering if I'd be better off bringing a clunker until I'm settled.

Is Lenovo's quality and support worth the premium price over Dell Inspiron, Acer Aspire, HP Pavilion, etc?

Could I wait until I've left the country and find a quality laptop at a decent price in Vietnam?

Additional thoughts and:confused advice would be appreciated.

Of course, 430s is better than Dell Inspiron, Acer Aspire, HP Pavilion.

Well, first and foremost I'd make sure that IWS covers Vietnam for the particular model number, otherwise you'll have no warranty coverage whatsoever over there...

Yes, they said it would be covered under the 1 year warranty with no additional hassles or charges.

Don't go by what "they said"...what's the model number of that T430s that you had ordered? Should be on the invoice...order confirmation...whatever you got from them when you placed the order...

According to the IWS look up, 2352 does have service in Vietnam.

If the T430s is what you would normally have bought, then it is a good fit. I wouldn't bother with a clunker for a trip - that could go very bad if something happens to it. You're more likely to find reliability in the new T430s than an old machine. Also, you won't find discounts in other countries - unless you want to buy a clunker, quality electronics are expensive everywhere and you'll find tariffs can be higher in many countries too.
