I'm experiencing an annoying problem after I did a clean install of Win XP Pro on my V1J.

The Wizard New Hardware keeps popping up with the message that new hardware has been found: Modem Device on High Definition Audio Bus

If I insert the ASUS drivers cd some kind of dirty Motorola Fax Modem will be installed, which I don't want on my notebook.

No problem you'd say, however, this annoying piece of hardware causes the Welcome menu to freeze for about 20 seconds.

Does anyone know how I can possibly get rid off this?

How about install and then disable? I think I did that, since one of the two modems onboard (regular or data fax modem) was giving me hell before and after installing the drivers. Weird connection attempts et cetera. Disabling all modems solved the problem.

I would suggest that you actually install the Motoral Fax Modem, since that is a feature in the laptop. The RJ11 (modem) jack on the laptop, by not installing the drivers, windows will constantly detect this modem but can't install it because Windows doesn't have the drivers.

Yes it does seem rather useless to some users, it will also put a yellow telephone icon in your system tray, but that beats having a 20 second hang on the laptop.

You can try to disable to actuall device in Device Manager, if that doesn't work, just install the drivers.

The stupid program it puts in systray can be disabled with msconfig or editing the registry. I'll find the name for you when I go home tonight if someone here doesn't beat me to it.

Yeah that sounds right. If you kill it in task manager and then hover your mouse over the icon the icon should go away.

    Thanks guys, got it solved.

    One more unknown device:
    Intel(R) 82801GBM (ICH7-M) LPC Interface Controller - 27B9

Tried the drivers and Intel update, yet no success..
Why does Windows still recognize it as ''unknown device''?

The last unknown devices on my V1Jp were the flash card reader and the stupid TPM module. The TPM module shows up in device manager even if it's disabled in the bios. There is also the finger print reader if you forgot that.
