If this is true, I wonder if EVGA will have an AMD-based laptop.
Also, should we make a "Mobile Vega Discussion" thread?
EDIT: While not Polaris, it seems the other R9 m400x GPUs have made it into another computer, the Dell XPS 27.

Seems like Polaris was a stepping stone to Vega for AMD.
We might not really see a big adoption of Polaris in mobile space vs say Vega.
I'd actually prefer to see Vega replace Polaris offerings due to improved architecture, efficiency and performance outright, however, that doesn't seem likely this early (then again, what do I know... we've seen so many announcements that anything could happen).

You may be right, but if so, I don't understand what AMD is doing. Why develop a dedicated mobile variant (Polaris 11) if it's only ever going to be used for the MacBookPro and some low-volume machines almost nobody has ever heard of? CES is almost over and practically every laptop announced had either Nvidia or Intel graphics (the lonely exception being the 15" Alienware which, in its cheapest configuration, has a Polaris 10 card). Honestly, this is yet another one of those times when AMD makes a decent product which just isn't widely available.

Blame OEMs/ODMs - as simple as that.

Btw, the sources claim it to be a RX 400 series rebrand aka RX 470, but I do not agree with it, since it doesn't make sense to put as an alternative to mighty 1070 and in addition, there are 4/8 GB variants which might very well indicate RX 480 rev. 2 in a laptop.

rebranded doesnt always have to mean identical. could be the same chip just tweaked, oced, whatever...

At the very least, there's another OEM that has an AMD option.

In which case, AMD can't be blamed as such.
It's OEM's that are at fault here.
It is possible that they won't take AMD seriously until they release Ryzen.

Also, those 560 and 570 cards in mobile might theoretically contain E9550 Polaris.
Though, I'd personally prefer Vega (I just don't know if its available in mobile form).

We do know that Apple is using entry Polaris mobile cards in their new Mac's.
Beyond that, no other OEM (apart from Alienware) seemed to have taken the steps to adopt Polaris as of yet.
So those new laptops with 5xx AMD cards could hypothetically contain Vega chips... and it would be nice if they did.
