hey guys, my name is andy im one of the MWLL Developers. you can find my site at www.bosoldworld.com this is likely the biggest mod yet (atleast that ive seen). its nearing the scale of a full AAA title. obviously its not as polished as a big budget title. im sure people will be comparing the two
back when the mod started it was for battlefeild 2142 and then the two leads crim and kami decided to apply for an early SDK of the CryEngine. they ended up to be one of just a few mods that received the engine before Crysis was actually released. since, a few of our developers have gone to work for Crytek and we have strong ties there. so this helps greatly in our development.
CryEngine 2 is one of the best real time renderers out there but it definately has its problems. for one thing CryEngine only uses real time lighting instead of baked in lighting like Unreal. this helps with building levels quickly and gives you the ability to change them rapidly. Unreal's baked lighitng system makes it FAR easier to acheive better performance with a high level of visuals. but everytime you make a change you need to rebuild the lighting for the level and that can take a HUGE amount of time.
i dont think MWLL would be possible without the use of CryEngine. The outdoor capabilities of CE and its terrain editor has helped GREATLY with the development of MWLL. ive seen some other outdoor games like section 8 or boarderlands that were created in Unreal and was very unimpressed with the visuals. the reason is, Unreal is made for indoor environments and they have made an effort to add in features which would support big environments but it really just isnt enough from what ive seen.
im really excited to get my hands on cryengine 3 because the lighting system was heavly improved. as you can see from their demo videos the are showing off the ablity to use many many lights in a scene. where previously you might only throw down 3-4 lights in a room you may now throw down 30. i think crytek sees where it needs to go inorder to sell its engine to more developers and is improving its product greatly.
MWLL is currently on the Crysis and will likely be switched over to Crysis Wars sometime soon inorder to benafit from improved coding. after that CryEngine 3 very possible... just need to wait for Crysis 2 to be released we will continue to improve the quality of visuals as well as performance as best we can and make the game avalible to more people with lesser computers.
Hmm looks like they kept the requirements the same as crysis. I wonder if any of the crysis performance tweaks work for it. Seems like they need to work on the audio though, just about every video I have seen has lagged audio for the weapons or none at all.
I am not sure if I will buy, I really don't want to spend 3k to get "moderate" fps.

I agree the Crysis engine is made for a much more visual outdoor experience, and probably worked well for what you had intended in this game.
But thing is, I and many other would probably play a game with "ok" graphics that ran really well with great gameplay than a super nice looking one with sub par performance.
One of the most popular shooters I can think of is Team Fortress 2, and by no means is that a Crysis looking game
Also I am loving Serious Sam HD right now, also really old school.
Definitly there is a big trade off made with the Crytek engine, good graphics and easier game design but a lot harder for the end user to play it. Here on NBR where many of the users are gaming on laptops and not expensive high end desktops its even more of an issue when it comes to how well a game can scale down.
I must admit the shooters using U3 outdoors were fine for me, I like the fact it was fast, fluid, and action packed. The shooting is what has my attention (or rather the guy shooting at me) and not so much the environment.
Oh wow, it's finally released and I still don't have a PC that can run it! Looks a little weird though that the upper torso doesn't bob while in motion nor the HUD in the cockpit view. Still, it's the first Battletech game with aerospace fighters. I've always wanted to pilot those.

Speaking of using game engine, crysis is about 2 years old now. Probably when this mod reaches full potential more people will most likely have better systems to play it. Also, with crytek showcasing its new crysis 2 engine which is supposed to be really scalable then we could probably play with this mod to its fullest potential. Thats if the mod gets ported over...
Anyways, have anyone tried the mod yet? Been wanting to but I can't find my crysis cd anywhere...

heres hoping you come out with a mod as popular as gary's. and for us notebook guys, hopefully it scales down well once you use cryengine3
+1 to OP! Thanks SOOO much. I didn't know about this. I am SOOO happy. You don't know how much I loved Mech Warrior 2, and longed for the days when we could get a decent replacement. From the looks of it, this will be it.
Guess I'll have to buy the Steam Crysis pack because I can't find my original CD! D'oh!
I'm in the same boat, can't find my damn Cyrsis CD either lol. I love the Crytek engine, the visuals are incredible, plus it just feels so "real". After playing it, every other game just felt fake and artificial.
Will definetly be getting this as MW2 was one of my all time favourites.
