    Hey all, I was wondering if anyone knew the model screen used on the mbp 17 inchers? Is it WLED or RGB because I took a look at them at best buy and they have one of the best screens I've seen. Clear whites (ie not grainy) and good color reproduction. Thanks.

    True, someone out there running Win7, go into device manager and post the Panel ID.

    I did some research and I think it's either LG LP171WU5 and/or LP171WU6. I think both are WLED.

    There's also a Samsung LTN 17" out there. IMHO, that might be the better looking screen.

    Btw, the panel can be ascertained easily in Mac OS X by looking at the 4-character model number in ColorSync, or more specifically by running a UNIX terminal command.

    It appears it is the LP171WU6 which hopefully is a variant of the LP171WU5 which is a rockin Panel. I had one in my RGB LED M6400 last year.

    I don't see a panel ID value in the device manager for the monitor. I do see these, though:

    Hardware Ids: APP9CD0
    Compatible Ids: PNP09FF

    Generic PNP monitor.

    hope that helps. I tried to look at my colorsync profile, but that information was unlisted. perhaps because it's a custom color profile (I have a calibrator).

    I'm not sure what type of panel the WU6 is but I know the WU7 is WLED.

    APP9CD0 = LTN170CT10 = Samsung panel

    They are offered in both glare and anti-glare versions.

    It is also the version used in the Core 2 Duo Macbook Pros.

    6-bit display.

    Did you go glossy or anti glare?

    Sometimes Lavasys Everest can read out the panel type where other software can't.
