Prey tell, at what specs? For example, would $86,000 at System76 get you 2x 28 Core (totaling 112 threads) CPUs, 8x Quadro RTX GPUs (compared to the Mac Pro single 28 Core (56 threads) CPU, 2x Radeon II Vega GPUs)?

I didn't even look at the specs. I was playing around with their ordering platform and maxed everything for fun.

Could be a faster machine, but if I were spending that much, I would buy the apple. At least you know that company will be around in 5 years.

Yeah. A pretty sick configuration (2x 28 core CPUs for 56 cores) with 4x nVidia Quadros. I added 8 Quadros in my quick and dirty config.

Most of the components could most likely be swapped out if needed for repair. Fortunately, Apple hasn't decided to start soldering things down in the MacPro too much, but how much longer will that last given their track record?

System76's been established for at least 15, I'm pretty sure they'll be around in 5 more. But I don't have a crystal ball. Just look at Gateway 2000. As they say, in life there are no guarantees, but death and taxes.

I love the case. I wish makers would make more devices using organic materials.

A new possible cheese grater from Apple won't be cheap...

Mac Pro desktop with up to 64-core Apple Silicon expected to destroy bank accounts in 2022

New Mac Pro models are rumored to be coming for 2022 that will seemingly remove the need for Intel Xeon W processors. The pricey desktops will apparently be fitted with chips that offer a mixture of performance cores and efficiency cores, leading to speculation that the future Mac Pro desktop PCs will utilize up to 64-core Apple Silicon.

Storage will apparently go from 512 GB to 8 TB, and a fully-specced variant will likely go for well over US$50,000, which is already possible with the current configuration options anyway.

Actually they don't. Most will never own a mac pro, and if they do order one, it will be base model just to say they have one. These maxed out options will only be purchased by studios with multimillion dollar budgets per year. Most true apple fanboys buy the base model of every apple device just so they can show off at starbucks.
