My younger brother is running an M18xr2 with a gtx 770m that we purchased and installed. When gaming on demanding titles the temps run up to 95 degrees pretty quickly and I assume is throttled from there.
Is there a guide to placing thermal pads on because I'm pretty sure they weren't put on properly when we got this replacement gpu.

I remember seeing one from @Mr. Fox IIRC. You would have to do some serious digging through the threads here.

Here you go. Had to do some digging in my Imgur archive. Uploaded 6 years ago to Imgur, LOL.

If you want a better CPU fan, if you don't already have the more powerful 11.7 CFM fan (Dell P/N J77H4), get one. The other option is only 4 CFM.

@Mr. Fox comes through again! I'm pretty sure my pads aren't right so this will help me out a lot. Thanks for keeping an eye on us Alienware tragics.

I got the pads right (as per the pic above) and my top temps in Fire Strike went from the mid 80's to now in the low to mid 70's. I also used a heatsink from another machine that looked brand new. I even pulled a better score in FS than previously.

I’m still not running cool enough apparently. Some guy doesn’t get much past 60 degrees which sounds really low. What are your temps Homer?

Keep in mind that ambient temps play a significant role in system temp, one guy with 20ºC ambient temp will have a cooler running system than if you have 25ºC or 30ºC ambient temp..

That's a good point. The upstairs bedroom it's in does get warm even when the AC is on.

Replaced my sad 4 CFM fan with a 12 CFM (rounded up). Makes me wonder if there is a option for the GPU fan(s)...
