Fired up the old girl. Downloaded Fall out 4 and she is still running well. I'm running the 7970s overclocked at 925/1450. Im running the games settings at ultra with motion blur, AA, and god rays turned off. Runs 60FPS. ONly issue is game related. ABout an hour into game play no matter where I am FPS freeze, drop to about 5ps. Once I restart the game the game is steady again.

Did you happen to notice what the temperatures where like when the FPS dropped? If not maybe you can replicate it and either log the CPU/GPU temps or watch them on-screen. Are you using current Catalyst drivers? If the temps are warm enough to cause a throttling, exiting the game and going back in may be enough of a break to let them cool down (only takes a few seconds in some cases).

Sorry for the delay, been away for the holiday. The FPS drop was a game issue, there was a patch that addressed it. Im now running the 15.11.1 driver, it ran almost perfect, but no crossfire. I just discovered that the directx11 profile provides crossfire!!!! Both cards at 75%, temps never go above 75, FPS stays at the locked 60 if I dont use the mod that unlocks. unlocked FPS avg 120FPS with minor tearing in some incidences. With the old driver and original release of the game when the FPS dropped temps were at 75, the highest Ive ever saw was 79.

Well I was hoping that 16.1.1 would fix cross fire and it did. But now the game is completely unplayable due to all the artifacts!

I fired up other games and no issue. Looks like AMD still cant fix their support for Fall Out 4.

What drivers are the folks who run dual m290x using? I get micro stuttering on my m18x r2 with these cards with online video streaming etc. I run hwinfo to control the fans and I have swicks BIOS installed. If I can find a way to fix this stuttering I will keep these cards. I've disabled ulps already. Any other settings I can mess with to possibly make this laptop run better? I hit 81c on the temp periodically, is that too high?

Ive been meaning to write this, but I am having too much fun using the old system. I am lucky and have two awesome running 7970s, they are 3rd gen and dead reliable. The newest beta drivers, 16.9 beta have woken the beast. I can now reliably OC to 980/1500, the only limit being the temp. that some games push the cards to. Crysis 3 and Battlefield 4 push the main card to 83, both cards utilized at 99% The new drivers are amazing and has pushed the 7970 cross fire setup to the performance of at least the 880 SLI set up. Back to gaming.

Is there a freeware version of 3DMark? Id love to run it, but all the ones I fond are at least 29.99. Not worth it to me. I can screen shot a game: Fall out 4, BF4, Crysis 3 etc.

Holy cow, I thought Id try what 990/1525 clocks would do, CRUSHED it 9274. Temps remained at 79. I'm going to try and run one last one at 1000/1550. And then game with B4 at the 990/1525 all setting on Ultra and see how it handles.

Cards/Driver don't like 1000/1550. 990/1550 and achieved a 9309. Going to try and game for a bit and see how temps are.

Gamed for an hour, highest temp on main card was 81. The jump from 15.1 last year with Fall out 4 to the Beta 16.9 driver has seen a tremendous jump in performance, and stability with these cars. If you look at my earlier posts I was struggling to OC 900/1425. Now the cards are stable at 980/1525 with big performance gains. Way to go AMD!!!!!!!! Not bad for a set of supposedly inferior 7970s!!!!!
