increasing size of thermal pads is never a good idea ... too thick pads would ruin the heatsink contact with the die and could actually be one of the reason you are having problems.

Hi there, had the same problem with my AW17 R5 when i repasted my GPU. My new thermal pads was 1.5mm-2.0mm and the heat from the GPU leached into the Hard Drive beside it (GPU Temp was 70C while my SSD would heat up to about 55-60C. I posted about it also here on NBR and one member told me that's it's the GPU's fault, once that GPU heats up to 70Deg C it would also heat up the surrounding area. my solution was I repasted again my GPU using Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut to lower the GPU temp and lowered my thermal pads to 1.0mm using Fujipoly Ultra. It solved my problem. With Ultra settings on Ghost Recon Wildlands and ME Andromeda I only get 65-70C on my GPU and 50-55C on my hard drive (SSD I mean).

hi, thanks for your reply .. yesterday i opened up my laptop and lowered the pads from 1.0mm to 0.5mm and got a huge drop of 10 degrees ..while gaming at ultra settings in dota 2 i used to get 91-92 degrees but now i get 81-82 max...as in my country there is no fujipoly ultra etc pads i have to use some unknown brands of pads for the chips :( but i am using GC EXTREME for the CORE
