I recently bought a brand new Asrock 1070 to give my old M17x r4 some new life. Only problem is that whenever I put in the new GPU, I just get a black screen with no backlight this is because I assume the vbios is not compatible. I have the 120hz 3D version of the display so that is not the issue. I also have done the following,

    - Full UEFI Environment
    - Set video setting to PEG
    - Reseated the graphics card
    - Cleared Cmos
    - Plugged a external monitor to it

And nothing seems to work. I don't know if putting it to SG mode in the bios video setting will let me boot onto it, but I'm too scared to do that since I don't want to risk bricking my board and would want confirmation before setting it to SG. The current graphics card is a 660m which lets me run a pure UEFI environment and boot up normally to windows and bios allowing me to make any changes.

Edit: besides all of this, my main question is if I will be able to run SG mode on the 120hz screen in order to boot up on the 1070 without bricking my bios

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Asrock card were never tested in any of the legacy alienware. Does it have a power connector on it?

Maybe it needs power,,, I have no experience with that model.

Setting it to SG mode does not harm the card.

Will it harm my bios and brick it? Because this is the 120hz panel and not the 60hz panel that has both video outputs

Please don't, not recommended to set SG mode on the 120 Hz screen, as far as I am informed the laptop won't POST anymore.

Would it revert back from SG mode if you pull the CMOS battery?

I tried SG mode, but it would just revert back to PEG mode on the 660m. I didn't want to set it to SG mode on the 660m, save the setting, then pull out the battery and try the 1070 since I didn't want to risk the computer being stuck in SG mode.

At the end of thr day, I ended up returning the Asrock 1070 in favor for the black PCB 1070 that sellers on ebay advertise that it works with the M17x r4. If anyone can confirm, that would be great
