so i i recently bought a new m17x r2 motherboard and when i finally got it it was missing the latch for the keyboard. so im trying to get a refund to from the seller, but that could take weeks. so my question is, how do i remove the latch from the old motherboard and put it in the new one? or is it not possible?

That brown latch which holds the ribbon cable in place? That's tough. Not sure if it's possible. You would have to bend the latch on your old motherboard ever so slightly as to pop the little pegs which hold it in out of their hinges. Then carefully rebend it into your new motherboard.

Well...it should not be not that hard? just pry it off, there is a small opening on the left and right side...or just break it off :)

If you plan to do that you gotta be extra careful, it shouldn't be that hard though.

There are little tracks for the pins to pop out through. The options are use needle nose pliers and pull the latch gently from each side to get it out through those tracks. Or use needle nose pliers to break the housing off the old board since I'm assuming the board is dead anyways... Once you break the housing edges off the latch will come right out then you just have to slide it into the tracks on the new one until the pins pop into place.

well if you have any broken laptop motherboards around you can probably pull the latch off one of them. doesn't need to be an alienware most of the pieces are the board are standardized.
