I went ahead and cut the blue wire as I suspected that was for PWM, gpu fan stays on full blast now

Bench with slight overclock full speed:

Unfortunately sleep mode is broken with this GPU, probably for the same reasons it cannot control the fan. Half of me wants to give it a try with a clevo 680M or MSI 680M but on a computer this old it just may not be worth it in the end

Will other cheaper Kepler cards work as well? This might breathe some life into these machines as economy and future retro.

I've tried the 880M and that was a no go. Some other chap tried the 670MX and that didn't work either

Here is my result with no overclock on the CPU or GPU:

I'll have a play around with the clocks and do another to see what i get.

Well I am not surprised about that card as it gives some newer machines troubles but will cheap quadros of the same era of the 680m is what I am wondering. Sad though the 670mx didn't work.

780M and K3100M were also no gos. Interestingly enough there is a single report of the Quadro M1000M working, but there has been no verified account of this.

Quadro Mx00M series certainly would be a very nice upgrade, I know that Kx100M cards give some machines troubles despite having no issue at all ruining slightly older Kx000M cards without issue so maybe there is a chance there though I find it odd that it booted and ran the 680m just fine but won't run other cards of the same gpu. Is this 680M different from others by chance such as the bios rom or some other difference?

Not so much vBIOS differences as differences in the core and how the IRQs interact with the system BIOS.

Back in the good old days of DOS IRQs were easier to managed so there wouldn't be problems like that. Thanks for all the help it is really appreciated!
