I had played many DVDs before it stopped working. It stopped working when I tried to play a DVD, and it started to spin the disc (what I could tell from the sound) but once it was spinning pretty fast, it suddenly stopped and made a sound that sounded like something was cracking or as if something was stuck.

I have tried to find a solution, but I haven't found it yet.

P.S: I have tried to play many different DVDs, including ones with different areas. I have also tried to play a CD that I bought recently, and the songs did play, but they did not have any information on them, such as track name, album, artist etc.

    Is the disc stuck inside?
if not then you have the same problem as I had, that is the cable inside is broken

No, the disc is not stuck, it ejects properly, but it isn't detected...
If I do have the same problem as you, how did you fix it?

try one of those cd lens cleaners, mine kept failing to read disks (at one stage it could burn but not read them...)
eventually i ripped it out and replaced it with a second hdd.

Yeah that means the cable's broken. I called dell and had mine fixed at a service center. you could call and ask him to do an onsite repair I think
