Last days , I have a problem after shutdown- the computer is not off to the end. Keypad and other lights do not go out - also the fan is active after the windows is off. I must to push the power button for a 5 sek. to turn it off . Does anyone know what might be causing this state of affairs ?

You have the lid sensor set to "do nothing" and are closing it after telling it to go to sleep manually, right? Mine does it too. It's EXTREMELY annoying. It obviously isn't "doing nothing" as instructed. There appear to be two lid sensors because the ALIENWARE text under the display goes out before the backlight. I know at least one is a magnetic relay switch. The other might be physical. I wonder if it's possible to disable one and fix it while still saving battery power during downloads or music playback by having the display cut off.

I also wanted a lid-sensor event for AlienFX so I could disable the keyboard lighting when closed (obviously not needed when closed). There also should have been one for operating on battery power vs. mains so that the color of your lighting can indicate battery power just like some charge indicators.

Can't really help with the OP but...
CZroe, Your magnetic relay is actually called a reed switch and is just as physical as the other.

download nircmd and follow the really easy instructions to create a shortcut to turn off your screen when not in use... I use it quit a lot and have the shortcut pinned to taskbar.

Okay, sometimes there is a device that won't allow the computer to shut it down. Like maybe the IEEE1394 or something. I don't know how to identify which device it is, though. Maybe there's a log to check.

    Okay, try this:

Go to Control Panel, and up in the top right where it says Vew By: click Small Icons.

Then go to Performance Information and Tools

Then on the left side hit Advanced Tools

Let us know what it says on top under Performance Issues. I read that sometimes it shows up there.

Edit: There's an Event Log entry on that screen, too. It could help.
