I'm having trouble getting the Nvidia GPU to be used by Minecraft. I've tried selecting the .exe in the list by adding it manually, but it still shows the Nvidia GPU activity as none when I have the game open and running.

I got it to work by adding all the java executables to the list, but then I'm unsure if that will cause problems with java being used in other applications such as web browsing.

    Any help?

I launch minecraft on the gpu using the context menu (right clicking on minecraft.exe & running with graphic's processor) which does the trick.

As for adding java to the profile list, it may be best to remove it unless you want all java apps to be run on the gpu.

I was having these problems when I had the Nvidia GPU global settings set to integrated graphics, anything I did would not allow me to run Minecraft with the Nvidia GPU.
When the global settings are set to Auto-select, Minecraft works flawlessly for me.

It may not be the same situation for you but it worked for me, so give it a try :)

Adding java to the whitelist will do no harm to your computer other then drain the battery faster. I use the java in my whitelist cause I play games and primarily plugged in. However when I go on a call and need my baby it's easier to select intel from the control panel for the whole day than remember. Its up to you. I use a custom built rainmeter skin so i have have a dock looking application controller where I can find my most used programs. One being minecraft. Unfortunately I can't right click on the app and select run with the high end card. Its comes down to preference and how much battery life you need.
