    Hello all,
was thinking about how the M11x GT33M compares to the new AMd Radion HD 6630M.

GT335M is dedicated graphics card, but is the Radeon HD 6630M also a dedicated graphics card on the new sony vaio S series and does it even compare to the GT335M?

    I hope GT335M is better.
    Thank you .

Let me google that for you

Anyway, according to Notebook check, it performs slightly better, but then again the 6630M is a newer card. That's to be expected with GPUs.

Its not Amd its ATi, but ATi is Amd's partner. Sony Vaio's all are horrible! Extremely crap for gaming, but the ATi 6630m might run better then the 335m, considering its newer, but just google info on the 6630m and the 335m.

Actually, AMD bought ATI a while back and last year got rid of the ATI branding. ;)

yep, AMD bought ATi just before the HD2000 series, but kept the naming all the way until the HD6000 series, where AMD just simply dropped the ATi branding alltogether. Though the same had already happened in the workstation cards (FirePro) some time before that.

    @ Tears
Thanks for the exciting "google" link. I searched this forum as well as internet and wanted to get peoples actual experience than just #'s. #'s are #'s , but real world experience is what matters.

others, thank you for your input but as I see the #'s are a bit better I hope this card can game as well as the M11x GT335M as my brother is purchasing the new vaio S with that card and we are debating if the new vaio S can compare to M11x. From the specs it looks like it can compete easily.

The amount of people that have gamed on both the HD6630m and the 335m can probably be counted on one hand. The former card is extremely new and thus hasn't really had chance to get into the retail channel yet (especially as alot of laptops this GPU was destined to go in have probably been held up by the SB issue).

Also it is difficult to really compare laptop GPU's with one another unless the rest of the laptop is identical.

Looking online the HD6630m looks to be a rough replacement for the HD5650m so expect 335m matching/beating performance as long as the CPU is decent.

6630M, according to notebookcheck, is a slightly lower clocked 5650 with 80 more pipelines. The 6650 is a rebranded 5650 at normal clock rates. So expect up to and perhaps a bit less performance than the 5650.

The 5650 (normal clocks) is comparable to the GT335m. Nonetheless, the 6630M is a capable card for casual gaming. You can probably do medium-high on SC2 with respectable frame rates. You can't really expect much more from a 13" laptop that weighs so little. The M11x is easily heavier than the Sony S series yet it has a smaller screen. You can also purchase a sheet battery for double the battery life. So if portability is your objective, then the S is probably the better option.

Alienware will probably refresh the M11x sometime in the future so you might want to wait it out. The S could be delayed due to the earthquake/tsunami that hit Japan. No one is 100% sure yet. Maybe dell will have their M14x out by then :p
