Yes... Making undocumented registry changes and other tweaks can cause system instability. And a lot of these ppl cause their own system instability.

With that said, a lot of the Windows 10 instability problems has nothing to do with tweakers, but rather it is from the many, many bug reports for Windows 10 we keep seeing on the rise with each new "Update" from Microsoft. For example, "Google’s Christmas present to Microsoft: a high severity elevation of privilege flaw in Windows 10" ( https://mspoweruser.com/windows-10-elevation-of-privilege-flaw-in-windows-10/ ) is the latest.

I never dismiss tweakers, and their service has great value. For example, @Mr. Fox has been griping for many months about the performance drop with each release of Windows 10 updates... not to mention the drop from Windows 10 to Windows 7. And in fact, we're starting to see other tech reviewers and other tech articles confirm exactly what he's been saying all along. And this comes in decreased frame rates in games, longer load times in apps, etc. Only by pointing out such problems does this become a public service announcement.

And if you don't agree or become annoyed, you can always choose to ignore the information.

Wishing you and all an early Happy New Year!

I have 6 machines in my home all with 20H2, and they all run fine. 3 of which are older machines that came with windows 7 and they are most definitely faster on 10. So, I am not out of context stating a lot of the Mr. Fox and papusans claims are just whining. So no, I won't ignore the information. However, like everything there is more than one side of the coin and 2 people complaining about windows 10 constantly does not make it accurate or true.

That's fantastic. And I'm glad it's working for you.

I can't say your experience is typical or not. However, there is certainly a lot of smoke on the internet (not just posts here on NBR) that may be indicative of some sort of problem.

Let's take a look at some other posts from past 30 months or so (Note, I found these within 2 minutes of a quick internet search):

Dec 17, 2020 - @seanwee post (with video) - "More evidence of windows slowing down despite claiming to be faster than ever" - http://forum.notebookreview.com/threads/windows-10-20h2.830339/page-55#post-11065246

    Feb 18, 2018 - "Is Windows 10 getting worse with each update?" - https://community.spiceworks.com/topic/2114197-is-windows-10-getting-worse-with-each-update

The "Decreased Quality with each Windows 10 Update" is message is resonating because it is happening more and more, and is hardly coming from just two members at NBR. That conversation can be had in the Windows Software Forum.

We're starting to stray here. I recommend we now get back to the topic of the OP.

@GrandesBollas, I'm curious if you had any thoughts about possibly returning / purchasing something with more memory.

Agreed. I am wondering about the ram being maxed at 16gb for the M1 as well. I do believe that the Arm apple systems use it more efficently. I am not sure if I am 100 percent correct on that one however.

That's a good question. The arch is too new, so I don't know off hand. In regards to efficiency, sometimes software just need memory to operate, especially with things in a VM.

For the life of me, I just don't understand how Apple engineered this system having memory contained within the CPU package. I understand the performance gains, and maybe they feel there's significantly less than 1% chance of any kind of memory failure. But still, not having the ability to upgrade a system or causing barriers limited by price or technology (based on how much memory can go into a CPU package) is confounding to say the least.

Sorry, is the question why you don't see the native ARM speed while emulating Intel CPU under Windows VM??
