Hey all, you may remember me for switching a Desktop 980 core onto a 980m. Well, I am at it again, this time putting a 1080 core onto a 1070:

The card powers up but displays nothing, and is always error 43. I've been chatting with @Prema and the verdict is that Pascal cards no longer let you just change the core configuration like Maxwell cards, so the extra 512 shaders are causing a problem. This means that we need a vBIOS with all shaders enabled, and is for a GDDR5 card. This unicorn does exist with the Quadro P5200. Prema thinks he can modify this to make the card light up.

So if anyone can dump and link a Quadro P5200 vBIOS, you would be a great help! The P5200 is found in the Lenovo Thinkpad P72, MSI WT75 8SM-005, and Eurocom Tornado F7W (a rebrand of the MSI system).

I am trying to ping the Eurocom Support user here but the @(username) will not work for some reason. Are there any other resellers here that offer systems with this card that I can ping?

There is still the change that the issue is packaging is different between GDDR5X and GDDR5 Pascal cores, but both memory types have identical electrical signals, so I doubt it.

If you need help from Eurocom, see if after tagging woodzstack he can put you in touch with Eurocom.

could potentially be a bit difficult to dump the vbios of the P5200, since the quadro Px200 series apparently all lack an EEPROM chip on their boards, so the vbios is stored on the respective machine´s mobo.

really hope youll be able to get this going! subbed :)

    1. as I remembered, GDDR5X has different pins as GDDR5, like physically. Not sure about the exact pin definition. But I reckon it's be different.
    2. Packaging should be the same. Otherwise it won't make sense cost-wise. Also there is GDDR5X version of GTX 1060 released just prior to RTX 20 series cards.

GDDR5 and GDDR5X have much different physical pad arrangements, but they have identical electrical signals to the core, so I would think a core that any GP104 core can run in a GDDR5 or GDDR5X configuration. I am concerned though because I did put a GDDR5 4890 core onto a 4850m and despite several tries the memory would always be shorted out. GDDR3 and GDDR5 are drastically different electrically though.

The 1060 ti cards with GDDR5X all had cut down GP104 cores, not GP106 like a normal 1060 ti. This doesn't matter to me know since I am using a GP104 core.

Prema got me a modded vBios. I am flashing and testing it tomorrow.
