Since HP Simplepass 2011 is gimped compared to my version 5.10.175.
The lack of the ability to create backups annoys me and the new VFS301 driver is pretty unreliable on my model. Digitalpersona is no longer providing support for newer major versions of IE and FF.

Re: DigitalPersona Personal and Firefox - HP Support Forum

I'm just looking for some alternatives that basically provides fingerprint reader support for windows login and browser logins / password per site basis with no autofill until verified. Provide the ability to backup and restore.

I don't care if the browser login/passwords are stored in clear text.
Just something I don't have to redo 30+ logins for every reformat, or something to keep track of.

(Feel free to copy and paste this to other places, just remember to post alternative solutions here for others to see ) :)
    -------
Check my third post, I posted an alternative. Feel free to add more :)

Well, I found that SimplePass 2011 has the backup and restore feature but only for a subscription free of $4 a month.

    Bump ------

Currently so far, I found a working extension for the HP Simplepass 5.0 or older that seems to work on FF4.

It working so far for the moment, I'm only testing on my forum accounts.

I'm running HP SimplePass 5.10.175 with VFS301 version 4.1.139 (package)
2.1.0.2 (driver), Firefox 4, Digitalpersona 5 extension disabled.

    Here it is ...
    Fingerfox-se by Anders Jensen [amews_aj]

Both are Firefox Addons. One of which was approved.

    Download from Mozilla (2.20.1)
    https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/fingerfox-se/

    Or

Download Latest version directly from Developer site (2.2x.x)
    Download Amews Software Development

It is a bit clunky interface but it works well.

    ---------
Quick Instructions (or Read the actual Guide) to work with digitalpersona. (There are also instruction in the actual guide to get it to work for those who don't use digitalpersona.)

You need to enable Real automatic popup. It would generate a pop up when it sees a login screen.

Set the checkbox for either by site or by domain.
(By site means it only works on this url [forum.notebookreview.com/index.php], by domain means the entire site [notebookreview.com])

Swipe your finger, it should load your digitalpersona add login prompt.

Fill in keys and value, select the dropdown to 'login'

Hit Ok. I think that should be it.

So to test, logout of site.
Try to login, wait for the popup and swipe your finger. It should login.

I am the developer of Fingerfox (SE) :)

I agree, but if you have any suggestions on how to make it easier to use, please tell me.

I only have DigitalPersona 2, and no extension was included there. Are you talking about a Firefox extension? If that is so, is it available for download from the HP website? Where?
That might be the key to make Fingerfox (SE) better...

Well fingerfox was designed with digitalpersona 2 in mind but 5 happens to work it. There is a guide in the site that tells you how to use it if you use digitalpersona 2 or none at all.

It pretty customizable, you can can define it to pop up automatically, or for some defined site, or use a button to do a scan trigger for login. Even then it still clunky :p.

The firefox extension for the digitalpersona 5 doesn't work in FF4 but the way fingerfox works by pretending that it does so that the addon works with it.

In my digitalpersona, I have to rebuild my site table but at least I'm able to do restore and backup option.

If you are looking for digitalpersona 5, heres the link ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp50001-50500/sp50048.exe

I think you misunderstood my question :)
I am the developer of Fingerfox (SE), so you do not have to tell me what it does ;)

You say it's a bit clunky, which I agree, and I am therefore asking if you have any suggestions for it?

And secondly, I wasn't aware that newer versions of DigitalPersona included a Firefox extension. If possible, looking into that extension might reveal some details, that might make it possible for me to significantly improve the way Fingerfox (SE) works. :)
I guess the DP5 Firefox extension is included in the installer that you posted a link for?

Oh I'm sorry ... Yep. I misunderstood. I'm surprised you found this post nor expected a dev at all. And the fact I'm bad at reading comprehension. :p

Yes the link includes the DP5 FF extension but it only works with FF3.x or older.

    -----

I'm using purely only the FF extension.

My suggestions, I have quite alot but .... of questionable practicality :p

    - Support for existing digitalpersona password manager profile, instead of having the rebuild it the first time of using fingerfox

    - The login popup should automatically close either by a timeout (60 secs?) or change into a different page. [If you switch tab, the popup should go away unless the other tab contains a login prompt ... tricky to explain, I go over later]

Also, this should could resolve a rare runtime bug I came across, when closing the popup while viewing a non related tab or site.

    - Move the identify by site or domain up top ... default by domain. Option to change that.

    - Customizable keyboard shortcut option to trigger a scan for login.

    - Support for http prompt?? (I remember you posted as a bug but resolved in the binary version)

    - It be nice of not using a popup to handle.

    >> I'm surprised you found this post.
The statistics showed that someone clicked a link here to go to my site ;)

    >> Yes the link includes the DP5 FF extension but it only works with FF3.x or older.
If lucky, I might be able to change that ;)

    >> Support for existing digitalpersona password manager profile
Probably impossible, since DP seems to identify each login by the process (IE), site name/URL and maybe a few other things. Very difficult, if not impossible, to trick DP to do this

    >> The login popup should automatically close .... change into a different page. [If you switch tab, the popup should go away...]
It should already do that! - works fine here...

As for the last 2 suggestions (customize keyboard shorcut and default by domain), I will note them, and consider to implement them in future.

    >> Support for http prompt??
There was a bug, but it has already been fixed. You can download the new version (2.21.x) on my website, and it should also be available on Mozilla Addons site shortly (pending review)

    >> It be nice of not using a popup to handle.
Agreed. But currently it seems to be the only way to trick DP.
But maybe that DP5 FF extension can reveal some useful details :)
