Yes, the videos I posted were using the xt drives. Speeds of HDDs have peaked. Speeds of SSHD are increasing, as are SSD. So, those videos are a few years old now, and so, My new firecuda 2tb is faster than what are on those videos however, the HDD drives stay the same speed. The speed gap between the two are growing.

Update. The hard drive is still running and still used on a daily basis.

I did install another HDD and cloned the primary one. So if the unreliable HDD fails, I have a backup.

I am waiting for the price on Samsung 850 Evo 2.5" SATA to come down. The 1TB version sounds like a great replacement for it.

If it is working, and you are fine with the speed, I would not bother. It's not going to just up and die. But if you NEED the speed increase over the SSHD then it's a good option.

Still keeps running with no issues. It's not my primary machine so no reason to spend funds to upgrade it to latest-greatest.

Yep...no issues at all with mine either. Getting ready to install a 1tb into my wifes dell soon. Been busy and never got around to it.

With only like 8GB NAND yeah it (the flash) can/may wear out relatively fast depending on usage conditions, but once the flash wears out it simply operates like a regular HDD so don't worry about the drive as a whole actually failing.

My firecuda has a 5 year warranty, I am guessing the "reliability" of the 8gb NAND is much more durable than older models. I am on year 2 now, of heavy use and it's still much faster than my HDD in the same device.

I see that the 1TB Samsung 850 SSD 2.5" is about $170 now, is that a good buy? To replace the Seagate Momentus XT ST750LX003 that's there now?
