Did you buy one already ? :)

    I bet you did !
I also am seduced by nice shiny things - but esp. when accompanied by mostly positive reviews from quite a number of people on the Tesco website who have bought it and liked what they got for the money.

SO...........I did buy ( the gold one, just to change from standard chrome ) just a week ago.

I have to say that my thoughts are somewhat mixed, even conflicted, but I am waiting a while before deciding whether to return it under the guarantee.

FIRST of all, in terms of appearance : it really does look the business ! not at all cheap looking, and feels solid ( without being overly heavy ) in the hand.
I think it will be excellent for traveling with, and I may also try hooking it up in my home office to the TV / monitor and keyboard to see how well it works as a main home computer.

So far all I have tried to do with it is view webpages and send emails..........

It has been fine for those purposes - it responds as quickly as you would need for these functions.

I also want to use it for Skype but have not as yet got around to that.

Obviously, at this price, and with restricted memory, you would not expect it to be any use for gaming but I have zero interest in that.

My SOLE concern so far is that yesterday when I pressed the button to boot it up, instead of actually booting up, the machine started making a sort of hissing noise ( black screen meanwhile ).

I tried pressing the on - off key again to switch it off but it would not do so !

I tried closing the case but it still did not stop the hissing noise.

I was starting to get a bit worried maybe it would do a battery explode or something like those mobile 'phones a few months back so I put it in an unoccupied room. After about ten mins I went back and it was still hissing so I opened it up and pressed the on off key again, keeping it pressed quite a long time.........
This time the noise did stop.
I left the laptop overnight closed up.
Then next ( this ) morning it has worked fine, as it did in the week prior to yesterday's hiss.
If anyone has any idea what this might be caused by I would welcome learning.
LINX don't seem to have a users' site where you can ask.
I should probably return it, but it was so cheap I am tempted to hang on to it for a while and see if the problem recurs......Of course if it did I would return it and expect Tesco to take it back without any query.

But the 'shiny thing' is tempting me to hang on to it !

For more reviews try to find them on the Tesco website, though i have to say they are elusive there ~sometimes you can read them sometimes you can't.

I didn't get one in the end, I sucked it up and went for an MBP on finance from John Lewis which is awesome (although my spacebar has broken so it needs to go back).

Hope your mysterious hissing noise goes away and the shiny thing brings you plenty of joy!

    Cheers!!
