what brand laptop works best with linux?

was looking at the XPS 13 Developer Edition, but $1500 and not being able to game seems expensive. so looking for a new laptop under $2500 that can run linux and game.

also i saw on xotic they offer 16.1 laptops. any advantage to those over a 15.6?

basically just want to learn linux (ubuntu) and some gaming on the go.

System76 has a nice OS for optimus based laptops, thinking about putting it back on my 13 R3

Otherwise it can be painful according to my friend who also has the same machine, I would look for a laptop that has a MUX switch at the very least, so when you hit those issues you can simply go to dGPU to make sure that is indeed the issue.

i did look at them earlier, and the oryp5 was the one with a 2080 but its about $2800 while a similar spec'd sager would be around $2300. is system76 really worth the extra $500 usd?

You don't need the system from 76, as they share the OS already :)

    Works great.
I'm using it for Ai\DL computations and 3d simulations with Unity3d Engine.
Very happy with the performance jump i got from the 1080 i had before.

Drivers wise the installation was easy and flawlessly.

I am happy with the Precision 7740 + Quadro RTX 4000 for running Linux/MacOS for work and gaming under Windows. It costs more than the Clevo but also has better build quality, battery life and warranty. The Quadro card is locked - so no undervolting or overclocking, but it is essentially an RTX 2070 MaxP as it has 2560 shaders and 110W TDP. The Precision 7540 variant would be like a MaxQ as it is limited to 80W TDP.
