main criteria n or ac bands +windows 8 drivers (non wi8.1)

Why are you running Windows 8 (not 8.1)?

If you want drivers that haven't been updated since 4/20/15 vs drivers updated 6/13/16, by all means. 17 series drivers have a lot of issues, especially ping spikes, only way to get the updated 19 series is to get 8.1

Nobody is keeping them up to date for 8. Your best bet is a USB dongle.
