    Hello!

I hope you could help for me. I bought a new Lenovo X200 (Nr. 7458) notebook but it hasn't got WLAN card. So I have to buy a mini PCI-E WLAN card. In my notebook there is a webcam so I find only 2 wlan cable (1 black and 1 grey). The question is: witch is the best WLAN card for me?

    Intel 5100

    Intel 5300

    or

ThinkPad 11a/b/g Wireless LAN Mini-PCI Express Adapter

    Please help me.

I can use intel 5300 (it has 3 connection port) if I have only 2 cable?

What is the correct FRU number for Intel 5100 or Intel 5300 for my computer?

    Thank you

    Peter

The Intel 5300 is supposed to be better than the Intel 5100. I heard that the ThinkPad 11a/b/g uses an Atheros chipset that is really bad.

I would get the 5300 if possible.

Yes it is the question Intel 5300 is possible or not possible for my computer. Because I have only 2 antenna cable and intel 5300 has 3 connection port.

Forexample if I put the grey cable to the TR1 and put the black card to the TR2 port. It is OK? The card will work without TR3 cable?

Sorry I cant speak englist very well but I hope you understand what I said.

I believe you can't utilize all the antennas that the 5300 supports since you only have 2...so the 5100 should be fine.

I would not know about the specific wiring, but the 5100 should be just fine. How did you get an x200 without wlan?

You should be fine with the 5300 or 5100. You just wouldn't be able to use 3 antennas like the 5300 supports.

The 5100 and 5300 still supports N, just you will not be able to use the 5300's support of 3 antennas. I think you are fine going with the 5100.

You can use the 5300 on your X200 with just 2 antennas. It won't affect anything other than reception, and even that will be minor. I upgraded the 5100 card in my X200 with a 5300 and just used two antennas and everything works fine. There is a thread about it somewhere that I wrote if you care to search for it.

I think the 5100 and 5300 should work the same in your case.

I have a thread about the 5100, and it definitely is a high performance card if you set it up properly (40MHz mode). I can't imagine the 5300 being much better when close to a router, but it may hold its speed better at range (if you have all three antennas).

Could you send me an correct FRU numer (Intel 5100) which work fine with my x200 (Nr. 7458-CTO)?

I bought yesterday an Intel 5300 from ebay.com. But I yould like to buy an other type (intel 5100) in the lenovo shop (or service). But when I would buy this type the seller asked me what is the FRU number for my Intel 5100 card what I would like to buy.

If you already bought the 5300, then just go with that.

Nothing will happen to your 5300 card. But for reference the FRU on the 5100 is 43Y6493.
