Latitude E6420 LCD Backlight Syncing Issue cause a blown LCD

    The screen on my wife's e6420 (1600x900 with NVidia) also went dark (no back-lit, picture still ok) and after reading this thread I feared the worst,
    But on disassembly of the screen I've noticed the screen connector wasn't inserted correctly (a bit sideways) but firmly held in place by a piece of thick transparent tape,
    had to cut the tape in order to get the connector inserted properly and afterwards secured with another tape.
    Now everything works back as it should, in hindsight the laptop screen appeared as a non pnp screen in windows what also could point at a bad connection, it now shows as screen of portable computer.
    I'm happy it was a simple (and free) fix but shows dell could pay more attention to quality control, build quality appears to be down compared to previous latitude models..

    Awesome! Glad to hear it was something you were able to fix yourself.

    Ironically I thought the E6420 was close to a return to D-series level of quality. The newer ones idk though. I miss mine lol.
