    Hello everyone (especially @reykjavi), it looks like I've found a way to completely get rid of cpu whine.
    It seems to be caused by the C-states of the processor, which perform some kind of energy-saving and turn off unused parts of the cpu. They can either be disabled in BIOS under performance settings or by adding an entry to the registry as written here:
    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/975530
    I used the registry way and didn't notice any changes to the battery life or temperature.

    dwisp,

    great finding. Will try and let you know the result (at least, I need to wail until the night to minimize the ambient sounds)

    This thread has been of great help. Btw what kind of idle cpu temps are you guys getting? Mine seems to be hovering around the mid 50s deg celcius. Is this normal for the i5-5300u with Intel graphics?

    Those temperatures look normal. If you watch the fan activity using HWiNFO > Sensors > Dell EC you will see that it doesn't come on until around 60C and goes off at around 50C.

    I have one with the core i7 and it's around 50 most of the tiime (according to CoreTemp), might rise to ~60 if I play Banner Saga on integrated graphics.

    @reykjavi
    Do you plan to buy a WWAN card that supports Russian LTE? I orderen one from AliExpress, but it didn't even fit in the slot. It'd fit into mSata slot, though.

    You need a 42mm long M.2 card. In the Dell numbering system these have an 'e' at the end if the number. For example, Dell 5570 = mSATA while Dell 5570e = M.2.

    If it is any help, the Dell 5811e is for North America / EMEA and supports :
    Band Support – B1 (2100 MHz), B2 (1900 MHz) ,B3 (1800 MHz), B4 (1700 MHz AWS), B5 (850 MHz), B7 (2600 MHz), B8 (900 MHz), B12 (700 MHz – A block ,B13 (700 MHz – C block), B20 (800 MHz - DD) ,B25 (1900 MHz),B26 (850 MHz), B29 (700 MHz – D block), B30 (2300 MHz), B41 (2500 MHz – TDD)

    Thanks, could be useful.

    Does anyone have this strange glitch when you open the laptop, the screen flashes black for a second and it seem to be quickly changing its resolution, the image itself is situated in upper left corner and is small for half a second, but after the black flash it stretches itself. Also, USB connect/disconnect sound plays when I open/close the lid.

    Googled a lot and found out that the Intel HD drivers might be responsible, but I have the last version. Also, recently I connected an external projector with some weird resolution, but I don't remember if this started happening straight after that or not. Any help'd be really appreciated, as this isn't critical, but is pretty annoying.

    I had an idea to get one, but haven't found anything for an affordable price (less than 5K rub). To my understanding, dw5809e should fit and be compatible with russian LTE bands.
    Pls let me know if you find anything suitable.

    It looks like disabling C-states using registry (and this seems to disable only certain c-states, not all) takes at least an hour of battery life.
