Yes, you can buy laptops without an OS, although it depends upon your dealer. Some big dealers, such as HP and Dell, force their customers to put the Windows OS on their notebooks. Others, such as Powernotebooks.com and other smaller vendors do not.

I remember reading an article on, I think it was PCMag or Computer Shopper where they gave tips on how to get a cheaper computer. One of their tips was to call and as a dealer to not install the OS to save some money and they were refering to Dell in that article. A good tip, but I'm not sure if they still do that and have never heard of anyone doing that since I read that article. I never did that because I either built my own computer and used an XP upgrade disc I had with and the older Windows discs or that in the case of this notebook it came with a recovery CD and it was not possible to request it with no OS. But I think to save a few dollars, it is worth a shot to call and ask. But if the big companies won't do that, such as Dell or HP, try the smaller resellers like ASUS resellers like ProPortable or Geared2play because when configuring the notebook you can choose to not have an OS preinstalled or not.
