Anyone know where or what laptops out there have dedicated docking stations the ones you just plop the PC on and lock it in. (Specifically not the USB kind)

I know the Lenovo Thinkpad T series does. That is what we use at work.

That's pretty much exclusive to business laptops, and even HP and Dell are dropping them now, for instance Latitude E5480 only uses USB docking station.

Thunderbolt 3 is the way forward for docking stations today.

@Jlz most business-class laptops have adopted USB-C/Thunderbolt for docks, i.e. you have to plug a cable instead of just putting the laptop on it. Also, you may be interested in Wireless docking.

Can you expand. I'm familiar with usb 3.0 docking stations, but thunderbolt and or wireless docking have some examples?

If you want the full range of connectivity afforded by a "traditional" docking station, you'll need to look for one that uses Thunderbolt. Here is information on Dell's offering.

@Jlz e.g. Dell WLD15 is WiGiG docking station; Dell WD15 - USB type C docking station; Dell TB16 - Thunderbolt 3 docking station. Fujitsu Lifebooks are the most notable example of clinging to classic dock station format.
