Does anyone know when the Pascal GTX will come to laptops and/or if they will support the Desktop one?

No news about this yet. Hopefully in the next couple of months we should have a better picture.

out of curiosity, would a laptop supporting the desktop 980 be able to support the 1080, in terms of chassis?

noone knows yet. I am not sure myself it may need a new heatsink or won't even fit. I advice you not to buy any laptop now as you will be kicking yourself in the butt if you bought one and realized later that you cannot upgrade to the 1080. The 980 desktop class can barely keep up with the latest games @60 FPS on ultra settings so definitely worth waiting for the 1080

That and Brexit made an extremely huge mess with the 980 replacement I was supposed to get.

are you thinking to upgrade the GPU by yourself? Gotta think about the design of MB and power IC is compatible for the switch.

Don't forget possible bios issues as well. Some companies don't provide a bios that could handle the 1000 series or will require an unlocked bios. Also don't forget that there can be subtle differences between models from different laptop makers. So if you can wait, I would, if you want a 1070/1080m for sure.
