Success reported on upgrading an MSI GT72 2QE to a FHD 120HZ N173HHE-G32 Rev.C display using the 4k 4lanes eDP cable.

Lost brightness control, always at maximum.

Given how MSI has keep using the same eDP cable, this should work in all models(of the GT7x series) up to the GT73VR(those and up already have 120Hz displays from factory).

The link is more or less this topic, I didn't photograph anything, because there are videos on youtube on how to teardown the GT72.

I can take a print if you want.

Cable part number: MSI 1781 K1N-3040052-H39

The K1N-3040052-H39 reference is also used to sell 30 pin cables, so always check with the seller that its a 40 pin(they also call it 4K) cable.

This videos can be used has guides on how to separate the display from the rest of the chassis, this is required due to how the eDP cable is routed, this is a necessary step(unfortunatelly):

The display that I got is supposed to be an N173HHE-G32 rev.C, not really sure, its indeed 120Hz, and it works on the first boot, but the colours are a bit strange, I got it from Aliexpress, and it was cheap, so it might be a second rate/quality display, I recommend that anyone doing the swap to buy from reputable sellers.

One thing to keep in mind, brightness control no longer works, display is always at full brightness.

Nvidia control panel/Windows also says that my N173HHE-G32 supports 3D, and I can activate and de-active it.

    Hi,
    I cracked my hp 640 g2 display, model HB140wx1-401.
I found in my country a good price for a similar display, model LTN140KT14-201.

The original was 1366x768, and the one i found is 1600x900. The specifications says both are single lane edp.
Could you please confirm if the second display should work fine on my machine?

Here is a comparing of the two:

    Thank you!
