Laptop for Future Mechanical Engineering Student

    1) What is your budget?
    About $1000

    2) What size notebook would you prefer?
    c. Thin and Light; 13" - 14" screen

    3) Where will you buying this notebook? You can select the flag of your country as an indicator.

    4) Are there any brands that you prefer or any you really don't like?
    I kind of like the style of the Asus laptops, but I'm willing to try any computer if it fits my requirements.

    5) Would you consider laptops that are refurbished/redistributed?
    Preferably I'd like to get one that is new.

    6) What are the primary tasks will you be performing with this notebook?
    Word processing, web surfing, CAD and other programs for school, maybe some games.

    7) Will you be taking the notebook with you to different places, leaving it on your desk or both?
    To and from school.

    8) Will you be playing games on your notebook? If so, please state which games or types of games?
    Portal 2 and games like it.

    9) How many hours of battery life do you need?
    Preferably somewhere around 6 hours.

    10) Would you prefer to see the notebooks you're considering before purchasing it or buying a notebook on-line without seeing it is OK?
    I'm fine with buying online.

    11) What OS do you prefer? Windows (XP or Vista or Windows 7), Mac OS, Linux, etc.

    Haven't done much research in this area so I don't know what I would need.

    13) Do you want a glossy/reflective screen or a matte/non-glossy screen?
    Doesn't matter.

    Build Quality and Design

    14) Are the notebook's looks and stylishness important to you?
    As long as it doesn't look like a brick, I'm fine. Although brushed aluminum, etc does look neat.

    15) When are you buying this laptop?
    Summer or when school starts. I'll either just keep waiting for newer laptops to come out, or search for a good deal on the one(s) I like.

    16) How long do you want this laptop to last?
    At least 2 years.

    Notebook Components

    17) How much hard drive space do you need; 80GB to 640GB? Do you want a SSD drive?
    I'm fine with 320GB. I might consider installing an SSD drive if the price is lower than $800.

    18) Do you need an optical drive? If yes, a CDRW/DVD-ROM, DVD Burner or Blu-Ray drive?
    Doesn't matter.
