Is there a Linux like software for Linux? In particular I'm looking for something with a browser like system where I can assign a picture to a file and have it show up when browsing my media files. Thanks for any help.

Songbird is almost an iTunes clone, so you can try that.

Yes. The only problem is it seems to get confused ... it doesn't know if it is putting music or video in the iPod.

Songbird is one of the best and works cross-platform, has coverflow and a TON of free Firefox-like plugins (in truth, it is built from Mozilla tech, in part). Sadly, it cannot sync with iTouch or iPhones because of how much of a jerk Apple decided to be with their databases. It will work with older iPod classics.

I can also suggest Banshee or Rhythmbox on Gnome. I think GtkPod (which these use) can interface with iTouch/iPhone on at least 2.0 if not 3.0 firmware. Amarok is a KDE program but is heralded as "the best" Linux-based media player in terms of features, by many. I think Rhythmbox is designed to be a "Gnome version" of Amarok.
