Ever since installing the update on 10-2-18 I get this popup every time I boot up my laptop, yesterday my fan ran full speed all day! even with the laptop sitting idle (less than 5% CPU use). It appears the two issues are related and both associated with the 1809 update.

Anyone else experience this? if so, is there a fix? or do I have to wait for MS to fix it in the next update? Thanks.

Update: After 6hrs online today the fan has yet to go full speed (which is typical for my limited usage) and is back to normal operation.

But I still have the above "Power Saving Switch" pop-up after every boot up??? I see no reference to a "Power Saving Switch" in the Power Settings???

Can anyone offer any guidance on how to deal with this issue? Thanks.

I am tired of MS's BS …..why do they continue to put out these crap updates before they're ready! (rhetorical question).

All that being said I have had no issues with any data loss after the 1809 update i.e. photos, files, documents, etc., just this annoying "Power Saving Switch" pop-up every time I log on.

    True story...
in light of my experiences with my 17XR4 and the April Crud (Creator Update), i decided to install 1809 update for ****s and giggles ( although in retrospect a bad idea considering i was due to work in the AM after a 3 day off, but idle hands, devils / M$ workshop...you know how it goes) .Had my 10 Pro backed up, went ahead and applied the update " like any good MS beta tester would". Immediately ran into trouble, just like any good win10 creator update should ( the update was applied sans any form of any manual PRVCY lockouts ). Although my issues were a bit mundane, like action center, inability to replace lock screen image, among others, and some program execution issues ( like M$ own ability to use LMI to remote in). What was more interesting is when the trouble shooting started, now i have used M$ tech support once before in win10 when i was having a problem where it was hooking onto my burner email to use as a windows account. We started at the base level went through all 4 ? levels of tech support ( having unfortunately now wasted a good 3+ hours) when finally Microsoft pulls out the big guns. I kid you not, level 4 Tech Christian Moses. Now Moses tries, and we figure out windows had not only cleared some of my old downloads and personal docs (unimportant) but also the backup file to recover to " previous edition of WX. At this point i was required to allow to wait till windows went through the motions to fix itself, at which i said Hell no, forcibly said goodbye, in Christian's defence he tried to keep me going, but at that point having wasted (due to my fault) time and sleep ( this was now 4AM local time).

While it's nothing like the first day right after the 1809 update where my fan ran all day long there is still a very noticeable increase in fan activity, the fan is running faster and longer than before the 1809 update. I notice it only because it's louder than before. My usage has not changed, I have made no changes to the BIOS or anything else, the only thing that's changed is the 1809 update.

Has anyone else noticed an increase in fan activity after the 1809 update? Of all the horror stories I am hearing about the 1809 update I guess increased fan activity is not such a bad thing by comparison but I am just curious if others are experiencing this change.

hmm...I updated two laptop with Windows 10 since this October and haven't seen that come up. My laptop once did a fault but restoring the image and haven't seen anything like that error. So are you updating on a clean imaged drive or updating onto constant updated system? I think this is where the problem is happening. Instead of updating to a clean image user are updating to all other updates which could had potential pitfalls that just migrate to the next updates.

I installed it on only one of my 3 windows machines, a rather dispensable HP AIO 23 from a few years back. No glitches, data loss or annoying popups. The fans appear to be working as they did before, i.e after a few hours they come on, but normally are virtually quiet. No change in speed, still the same slow, slow AMD cpu. I am not installing it yet on my wife's brand new Spectre, I would be sleeping on the sofa for a couple of days, if she had to wait for me to reinstall her Macrium Image backup.

My Zenbook Pro that I'm waiting for, will not get it for a few months until the kinks are worked out completely.

My little Inspiron 14 1344 *El Cheapo Mexican Special, with 4 gb of ram, will justy barely run Win 10 so it will remain happy and surprisingly zippy, with a 600MB hacked version of Win 7. No update for you!!!!

Well my dell 1525 with a T8100 intel and 4gb RAM runs Windows 10x64 without problems. It's a little slow sometimes but beyond that it runs without problems after reimaging back.
