Hey guys whats going on? I have an M17X R3, been running the 780M perfectly fine for about 7 months now. I've updated the driver once before, but it seems I'm having problems with all of the latest releases. Whats happening is when I download the latest driver, I run the setup so the 398.36 folder gets saved on my computer. Well thats what is NOT happening. Every time I run it, I see the folder pop up, but once the Nvidia downloader fails (as it should), the 398.36 folder disappears! I cant figure out how to make it stay there permanent! I've disabled driver signing and everything. Any suggestions?

NV 'improved' the installer. Now it deletes on exit! Try switching out to copy before exit or use a zip utility on the .exe to extract the files.

Got it working! I extracted the .exe file to my desktop, made a folder named 398.36, and modded the nvdmi file, testsigning on, ran setup as admin, and bingo!

Yeah, Nvidia has changed the installer and some structures of the driver.
When it extracted (with opened Nvidia folder) I simply right clicked it & copy to desktop.
In the NVDMI file I tried finding the right section to amend with my modified IDS file (Graphic card properties).
At first it didn’t work, I got like no device recognized or something like that.
Then I added the modified IDS file to all three sections named something like [NVIDIA_Devices.NTamd64.6.2].
Then I added under “String” (very bottom of same file ) the same but shorter modified IDS file.
I got the info from here: https://null-src.com/posts/nvidia-notebook-driver-inf-mod/post.php
