Hi there! I'm new here, and this is my first post. I am looking for a gaming laptop that matches the specs below. My current laptop is the DELL Inspiron 15 7559, and I bought it more than three years ago. I've been wanting a new gaming laptop ever since the charger of the one I currently have is unstable.

The title of this thread is "Is it a Good Time", because I had a friend who told me earlier this year that it's not a good time to buy a gaming laptop because the games for the new GPUs aren't there yet. He said that in February, and I'm not sure if it still stands at this point in time. You guys should read my requested specs first before giving me an answer to that question.

EDIT: I am someone whose knowledge of computer specs borders between novice knowledge some knowledge. Please don't be too technical when describing specs. Thanks!

    1) What is your budget?
I am aiming for a laptop priced at CAD$4000 and below. I am going to have a job that gives very good pay (CA$25/hr), and by the rate of how many hours I have for my job, I'll probably have the money in around 2 months time.

    2) What size notebook would you prefer?
    d. Mainstream; 15" - 16" screen
Specifically a 15.6'' laptop, just like my Dell Inspiron 7559

    3) Which country will you buying this notebook?
    Canada (hence the CAD$)

    4) Are there any brands that you prefer or any you really don't like?
I'm quite open to different gaming laptop brands as a principle, but with the research that I did, I am leaning more towards the MSI GS75 and/or the more recent Eluktronics MAG-15. But again, if you guys have any better suggestions that these two please do tell me.
    5) Would you consider laptops that are refurbished/redistributed?
No, I like new, shiny laptops please.

    6) What are the primary tasks will you be performing with this notebook?
    1.) Gaming, 2.) Schoolwork/Work work/Any work involving Microsoft Office, 3.) Storage, 4.) Internet browsing

    7) Will you be taking the notebook with you to different places, leaving it on your desk or both?
Both. But mostly I want to have a laptop that's easy to carry around. The laptop I have now is very heavy. Whenever I carry it around in my laptop messenger bag I get shoulder pains, and I feel there is too much weight on it.

    8) Will you be playing games on your notebook? (If so, please state which games or types of games?)
Yes. A lot. Mostly strategy games, like Civilization and Paradox Games.
But there are games that I would like to own that are very heavy in graphics and which my laptop couldn't handle, whether they are strategy games or otherwise. I am looking forward to Cyberpunk 2077, and to Humankind, but the game that I would want to own is Anno 1800, which my current laptop couldn't handle. Generally, any high-end game with Cyberpunk 2077 as its maximum threshold.

    9) How many hours of battery life do you need?
5-7 hours is the max. But usually, I use the laptop with the charger plugged in

    10) Would you prefer to see the notebooks you're considering before purchasing it or buying a notebook on-line without seeing it is OK?
It depends on where it's available. If it's available on retail or if there is some specialist store out there, then I can see it. If not then I'll have to settle with YouTube demonstrations. My main worry for online is shipping, and whether I am sure the laptop will arrive at my apartment in one piece.

    11) What OS do you prefer? Windows, Mac OS, Linux, Chrome OS, etc.
    Windows. Preferably with Microsoft Office

    Screen Specifics

    12) What screen resolution(s) would you prefer?
    Ultra Resolution

    13) Do you want a glossy/reflective screen or a matte/non-glossy screen?
Not really that important, but I would lean towards matte

    Build Quality and Design

    14) Are the notebook's looks and stylishness important to you?
A bit. They're more bonus points for me.

    Notebook Components

    15) How much hard drive space do you need?
1 to 2 TB. My Dell Inspiron has 1 TB and that's sufficient. But I would like a 2 TB laptop.

    Timing, Warranty and Longevity

    16) When are you buying this laptop?
Two months from now (around Christmas), but if any of you guys recommend me to save money until the start of the year, that would be fine as well.

    17) How long do you expect to use this laptop?
I'd want a laptop that's an investment. I understand that the progress in the capabilities of games and the graphics cards that sustain them is coming fast. But I hope there's a laptop out there that can handle games within 2 to 3 years. If anyone can advise me on this, that would be helpful.

    18) How long could you afford to do without your laptop if it were to fail?
None at all in terms of games. In terms of doing other stuff, I can go use the other computers that we ahve at home.

    19) Would you be willing to pay significantly extra for on-site warranty, or would it be acceptable to you to have to ship the laptop to the vendor for repair with perhaps a week or more outage?
If I do have enough money budgeted for extra warranty, I could. But unfortunately, I don't. I could ship it, but it could be a bit of a hassle.

Around 7.5 lbs is a bit too heavy for me. And with the amount of customization for this is mind-boggling. I couldn't decide what's the best combination for me, since I couldn't understand each option for each spec.
