I have to say it is very likely a modified 1720 laptop with custom paint job and keyboard. Although the photo looks authentic, but the color theme is inconsistent and it does not fit into the silvery look of the existing XPS lineup.

    Hi knn123

I agree it's inconsistent and ugly, but it would be hard to fake the details that are now being released. Apparently someone has access to the service manual and the details seem to verify the leaked pictures.

    Kind regards

Jonty, how do you know the person is telling the truth? It seems so easy to say/fabricate anything on the net that I just find it unconvincing. I also don't see how the service manual is connected to the photos. Even if the service manual is true, but the "design" can still be fake.

    Hi knn123

Sorry, I didn't mean to disagree, I hope like you that this isn't the final design and I agree that there's a lot of speculation, thus everything should be taken with a pinch of salt.

However, the French forum that produced the first pictures does have a reliable history of leaking accurate information. If the service manual (different source) does exist (there's no proof), some of the details would make a lot of sense and corroborate the rumoured specifications.

For instance, the underside photo shows very elaborate cooling that isn't present in any of the other models. This would seem to lend credence to the SLI theory, as would the 230W power supply that the service manual and leaked specifications mention.

The gaming LCD and backlit keys (similar to those on Logitech's G15 keyboard) also make sense, given that Dell already uses Logitech components (like the built-in webcams) and that it seems an odd inclusion to a supposedly Photoshopped photo.

Anyway, I guess we'll all find out soon enough. There was quote in Games for Windows magazine (in print, if that makes it more reliable) that Dell's laptop division will make a big announcement in the coming weeks, so August 27th would fit with that timescale.

    Kind regards

That is just butt ugly. Come on Dell, you can do better than that, can't you??
I know that the lack of 8800 is because the mobile version has not been released yet, but apart from that, the specs aren't bad. But HOLY CRAP...... she's hideous!!

I hope it means this info is wrong, and it's really shipping with an 8800 :( If it doesn't, it's pointless, though I guess if they QUICKLY add it in there it would be okay (except for people who buy it with the pointless 8700!)

Also I hope this DOESN'T have SLI, because that means an Nvidia chipset, and I'd much rather have Intel. SLI would be pointless anyway unless they can get dual 8800s in there. Dual 8700s would be completely pointless, since they'd be destroyed in every possible way by a single 8800.
