Intel i7-8750H vs i7-8850H - Laptop CPU Comparison and Benchmarks
    (includes undervolt and OC testing)

Intel recently released their 8th generation Coffee Lake mobile CPUs for laptops, in this video I will compare the features and performance differences between the popular i7-8750H CPU and slightly more powerful i7-8850H CPU to help you decide if it’s worth paying more for the better CPU. I’ve benchmarked both games and CPU intensive applications to show you the difference between them, both at stock speeds and with the 8850H overclocked to 4.3GHz.

    Games Tested:
    Fortnite
    Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (CS:GO)
    PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds (PUBG)
    Shadow of War
    Battlefield 1
    The Witcher 3
    Watch Dogs 2
    Rise of the Tomb Raider
    Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon
    Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege
    Far Cry 5
    Dota 2

    Applications Tested:
    Adobe Premiere
    Cinebench
    7-Zip (compression/decompression)
    VeraCrypt (AES encryption/decryption)
    Handbrake (transcode 4K to 1080p, and 1080p to 720p)
    Passmark9
    Geekbench 4.2.2
    Corona 1.3
    V-Ray

Then we are on it again. Aka No change vs. it's bigger brother the 17R5. Or its predecessors. The new designed small Vapor Chamber cold plate for Cpu doesn't make it/cut it. And this with the weakest of the 6 cores Coffee lake BGA chips (i7-8750H)

    Alienware 15 R4 Review: Bulky Powerhouse-Tomshardware.com

    Bottom Line
The Alienware 15 is a powerhouse laptop with a comfortable keyboard and easily upgradable parts if you need extra storage or more RAM. Its biggest downside, though, is that it didn’t do as well as some competitors on most non-gaming benchmarks. And then there's the bulk.

Competitors like the MSI GS65 Stealth and Asus ROG Zephyrus M GM501 both have higher CPU scores and are far more portable, but you’re giving up the full-sized GTX 1070 in the Alienware for a Max-Q option in both cases, and each of those are more expensive for similar configurations.

That review is wrong. The GTX 1070 in the Zephyrus M GM501 is also a full-fledged GTX 1070, not a Max-Q version.

I talked about the Cpu Performance.
I have talked about this before in several threads and sub forum... BGA = Need 1 bin higher clock to compete with LGA for same scores. Same for Skylake, Kaby lake and now Coffee lake @Falkentyne @Mr. Fox @Vistar Shook @KY_BULLET @Ashtrix @Phoenix @Donald@HIDevolution ++++

Low entry BGA (i7-8750H) run normal clock speed in the first Cinebench R15 benchmarks (scores and clocks drop after first round). I have locked all 6 cores down to same clocks (39x for all 6 cores). And no voltage tweaking.

From Notebookcheck.net data sheet for i7-8750H

BGA clocks (i7-8750H@3.9GHz all 6 cores).

Most 8750Hs run at 3.4–3.6 GHz after the long-term power limit of 55–60 W. Perhaps try power-limiting your CPU and see that your score, too, drops?

Notebookcheck post always highest Cinebench R15 scores in their data base for the cpu model. Aka always from the the first round.

From highest score on Notebookcheck.net (i7-8750H). The long-term power limit kick in after first round.

Lowered to 37x all 6 cores. AV + several Google tabs + other applications running in the background. Barely 41.2w. But still near 1260cb (no voltage tweaking for the clocks).
    upload_2018-7-15_2-34-47.png

Edit. 38x all 6 cores and still under 45w TDP. No reason for the i7-8750H BGA should score lackluster within it's TDP. I could probably shave of +5w Package power with proper voltage tveaking for the fixed clocks. Core i7-8750H is the bottom of the bucket and still being called High end by Notebookcheck + many other reviewers:confused: I'm pretty sure the biger brother the partial unlocked i7-8850H is not much better either (if its equal locked down to 45w after the long-term power is exhausted).

For the records... The +$600 usd unlocked 6 core i9-8950Hk in Macbook Pro score 942cb in same Cinebench R15 benchmark. Niceo_O

    temperature

Although the cooling gets going, the Alienware 15 R4 gets extremely warm in 3D mode. The Alienware 15 R4 concedes additional minus points for the high hardware temperatures. During the 60-minute full load test, the slightly throttling GeForce GTX 1070 heated up to 90 ° C. A maximum of 100 ° C in the CPU are just borderline, especially since the Core throttled strongly throttling i9-8950HK.

Conclusion - cooling system at the limit

Alienware 15 R4, tester provided by Dell Germany
The fourth revision of the Alienware 15 unfortunately does not fit into the top 10 of the best gaming notebooks.

As our tests have shown, cooling with the Core i9-8950HK isa bit overwhelmed. The lean CPU turbo and the heavy emissions (temperature, noise level) are clear indications of this verdict. With a few millimeters more height and the resulting airspace, the system would probably do better:rolleyes:

Otherwise, the chassis knows how to convince. If you ignore the fact that the case depth is 17- rather than 15-inch level, the chic, stable and well-lit body gets a lot of praise. In addition you get good input devices, lots of connections (Thunderbolt 3!), A decent battery life and a useful display. The sound makes it comfortable only in midfield.

Edit. Maybe Alienware's CEO Frank Azor should have done exactly the same for all of their gaming brand line models? They really should forced Full re-design or just skipped the upgrade before they made the decission to push out the 8th gen 6 core BGA chips as it is. At least he made a good decision for the smallest one, The Alienware 13:cool:

No Coffee Lake refresh coming to the Alienware 13
Those waiting for a Coffee Lake refresh for the latest Alienware 13 gaming laptop should give up all hope because Frank Azor has just confirmed that such a thing is not in the cards. The models currently available on the market us...

The XPS 15 with the i9 will run at 2.2GHz then and at 100C of course, since it is Dell.
