I have been trying to install Windows 7 x64 on this machine without success.

I find Widows 10 runs slow on this low power ATOM cpu so i though Win 7 would run faster.

On older version of Windows 7, I can do the drives and windows install till the first boot, but during the first boot showing the Win 7 logo, It freezes with a red corruption bar at the top of the screen and i am forced to do a forced shutdown, on reboot i get the Win7 boot menu, but i get the same crash/freeze with any selected option.

On the latest Win7 x64, It does not even get to first setup menu before the freeze hits.

If i do an safe mode boot, The last process displayed is "DISK.SYS" and then i get the freeze.

The UEFI menu, only shows option for Win8+ or Android.

    Secure boot looks disabled.

I have tried booting in PCI instead of ACPI mode i get the same freeze.

Is it not possible to install Win7

    Thanks

    John.

I have installed Win 7 on many systems that originally shipped with 10, yet I have never come across that error before.

I just installed Windows 7 on my HP Probook last night. Previously i was using Windows 8.1 but now i just installed Windows 7 x64 its working very smoothly without any issue. Its not a big deal that you install windows 7 on windows 10 OS.

Supposed the Atom x5-Z8300 chipset drops support for older transfer protocols that Win7 requires to install, this may explain my disk.sys error crash and my bios does not have a compatibility mode.

Also the red corruption bar at the top of the screen, could be a graphic compatibility problem.

So it looks like these new chipsets dont want you installing Win7 or older.

I have been installing virtually every version of windows sine 1995 windows 3.11 then Win 95, 98, XP, Vista, Win7, Win 8, Win 8.1, and not Windows 10 every one many many times for friends and family.

    Thanks for all the help.

I think I have the exact same issue, down to the nitty gritty level.

Want to Dual boot side by side windows 10 and win 7... succeeded with the installation and the boot menu.
Win 10 works / Win 7 hangs att startup, if i run it fail safe at disk.sys. Seems like theres an hardware / graphic card issue.

I´m running a new Dell Latitude with som other specs / graphics... but I want to solve this.

Add me at skype: ungern783 or mail peter.at.golles@gmail.com ,, see if we can solve this together.

    Cheers!
