I plan on installing a Samsung 830 series 256 GB SSD in the HDD-bay of my N55SF notebook. The original harddisk will be installed in place of the Blu-ray drive. What would be the best way to install Windows 7? From the ASUS Recovery disks or do a clean install from a Windows 7 DVD? Or cloning the original harddisk? Are there any special settings to be made in Windows 7 to make it work proper on a SSD without wearing the SSD out fast and also to keep the SSD up to speed

The general consenus here is to recommend a clean install to the ssd from a win 7 DVD. If you need a link to download (free) it let us know.
Before you do this either backup you activation data ABR (Activation Backup and Restore) | directedge.us or simply enter the key from the label on you computer. I have followed Tijo's advice as far as tweaks, shrink (or move to HDD) the page file and disable hibernation.

BTW GOOD choice on the Samsung!

Yes, I can sure use a download link for win 7. The label on the laptop says Win 7 Home Prem. I don't know how to backup the activation data ABR, don't know where it is located. Where can I fing Tijo's advice about tweaks and how to move the page file and disble hibernation. Are these recommended tweaks for SSDs? Do I need to install TRIM or garbage collection?

the link to download was here: http://forum.notebookreview.com/win...-7-download-links-just-like-vista-before.html I will do some searching to find a viable link, you do not have to backup the activation data, just be sure you can read the key from the sticker on your laptop. To disable hiber. How to disable and re-enable hibernation on a computer that is running Windows
To move page file : How To Change Swap File Location in Windows 7 BUT since you have 256 GIG space I would leave it on the SSD and shrink it down to 1 GIG or so.

I installed Windows Home Premium from USB stick and so far so good. How do I shrink this page-file? Does it have great impact?

    I have 8 GB.

BTW, what is the drawback of doing this install from the ASUS Recovery DVD's?
