If you were to be sent to some unknown, hostile planet and you were allowed to take 1 fire-arm, what would it be?

I would still take a weapon with projectiles, as the Asgards found out in Stargate SG-1, the Replicators were immune to laser weaponry, so your phasers are GG!

Hard to choose, but I would probably go with the .50 cal M3M (GAU-21) machine gun. 1,025 ± 75 RPM (adjustable)

Other options would have been the M107 .50 Cal Sniper rifle, or M60 7.62 machine gun.

AR 15 vs AK47, the AK weighs twice as much as an AR

The AK's weight helps with the recoil. Also 7.62 rounds weigh more than 5.56. AR-15, M16, M4 are quite complex to take apart compared to the AK47 to field strip and clean.

Skip to 1:15 to see the History Channel (not sure why it says Discovery...I saw it on HC) name the AK-47 the #1 AR in the world.

You can't kill an AK easily. It's amazingly simple to take care of (especially compared to the M-16). You can't do much to make it not fire.

    Hell yeah....

Forget the chances of aliens being hostile, what are the chances they will be bigger than a breadbox or at all a legitimate threat to your life?

Also, I'm sure no one has considered the fact that if stranded on an alien planet you might be more interested in killing things to eat them... Good luck doing that with something that you just nuked :p
