I would like to buy the ATI Radeon 6990M

    You should upgrade to single HD 8970M. It beats the crap out of your older cards and runs way way way more efficient. Less noise and heat. But damn, those older ATI cards sure are sturdy. Never seen any issues with HD 4xxx or HD 5xxx series cards. Glad to see that AMD fixed everything since the HD 8xxx series again.

    I'm afraid that 680m will not get there ..
    I was also completely satisfied with the 6990M MXM ... So I think I will buy it again, knowing that after 3 years I will replace the whole pc.

    It will work just fine, no worries.

    If you buy a used 6990M, you'll basicially risk doing an upgrade every 2-3 months.

    So buy 680m for example 680m alienware? But I do not know if there's the latest bios version

    nonononono, as i said, everything except Alienware. It doesn't matter what vBios version its on it. Itll be plug and play.

    ATI went away with the 5000 series.

    I miss them. Kind of my main issue with AMD... :/

    A dead 6970M/6990M can often be revived with a reflow using a heat gun and liquid flux. Those suffered from bad solder joints, rarely if ever a core failure. 7970M early versions had core failure from the 28nm teething process, something that reflowing can’t fix. I’ve baked several 6990Ms and revived them successfully
