I can only afford a Macbook Pro 13 or a Surface Book. 2015 models.

Without a dedicated GPU, is the original Surface Book worth buying?

I want the surface book as I need the resolution for Light Room and of course the touch/pen.

I could use a intuous pen/pad on the MacBook, but I like the idea of being able to use the tablet. Plus the tablet becomes really portable.

original surfacebook is still WAY better than the macbook pro 13, however without dgpu it kinda sucks.

Im use to all my ultrabooks not having DGPU, I have a gaming machine for that :).

I see you can now do sideways shading with the HB, thats so freckin cool, is that in the Pen or the new surface book. Id definitely upgrade the pen if so.

The DGPU models where I live just cost WAY to much. They are expensive in US, well add 60% to your US cost literally and thats how it is here. (no not currency etc, I mean literally a 60% markup)

I may want to chime in here and say that the SB had some issues and if anything breaks, you will be out of luck. Depending on the year of the macbook you are considering, it would probably be easier to repair should something happen. You seem to be very budget conscious so I figured this was worth pointing out. I still think the SB is the better pick, but if it turns into a brick in a few months its worthless.

If the SB doesn't have a warranty, I would recommend the Mac instead. A refurbished MBP purchased from Apple carries the same 1-year warranty as a new one and can be extended with AppleCare at any time before said warranty expires.

This is not my long term lappy just for 6 months or so while I wait for certain models to upgrade to 8 gen intel.

Yes the SB had INTEL issues haha, the drivers for the GPU, but I thought intel fixed that?

Ok so he is asking $700 for the original i7 model no GPU.

Why is this not a good buy? Macbook Pro 13s of the same age go for $1400. They dont have dGPU either.

I would go surface book instead of macbook hands down. why? Macbook, thats why. They are terrible devices, and OSX is horrid.

Or better yet, just get a ThinkPad if you're so budget concious. Why buy a unrepairable trashbook when you can get something else that's far more durable and can easily be repaired instead?

Because the SB1 is very reliable and maybe he wants inking and detachable tablet to use as well.
