I bought a 250gb hd but it only show 4gb why ?

    not really fimiliar with that program there.

    How old is your desktop? Some older motherboards have limits on the hard drive capacity. Try updating your BIOS.

    I got a recent laptop, asus z83v, bought 2005 , 2000$

    I got another hd with 160gb and it works well, I think I'm going to return it, best buy sucks.

    Wait, did you even format/partition it? Info says you have 230GB of unallocated space. That means the space is there, but you aren't using it. Format it with windows or partition with whichever program you use.

    yes, it's user error; not a problem with the HD

    I tried the HD on my other computer and also shows 4gb.

    I tried formatting both ntfs and fat32 but no results.

    what steps are you taking to format it ?

    I don' really know how to format, i just clicked start in the image I showed.

    start > programs > administrative tools > computer management > storage/disk management

    format/partition from there

    if you're not sure how, google or wiki it

    Thanks a lot, I did a new partition but now I have two drive one 4gb the other 229gb. Is there a way to make them 1 hd of 233gb??? Combine the two.

    I've always found that partition magic works really well for that kind of stuff. not sure if you can find a free version...

    does anyone know if fdisk can merge partitions it?

    Nah, Fdisk can only create, delete and format FAT 16 and 32 partitions.

    yeah! partition magic can merge partition with all the data intact. i have recently merge two partitions in to one, and all the files and the folder in one partions are saved in a new floder in the other partion with they merge in to one.

    Just delete both partitions (if you've moved any data over to the drive, be sure to back that up on your desktop or laptop) and format the whole drive as one partition using the same method that you did before.
