    First impressions by the offerings:

    1. Zero 4th of July discounts on either the 15" or 17" new omen models
    2. PCWorld review stated the 15" model with 1060 would support Nvidia Max Q but no mention of which one of the 2 15" models available have it.
    3. Marketing materials and reviews available on the web listed the 17" model with an optical drive but none available on any of the 3 17" models available.

I am in the market for a new laptop soon, but aren't prepared to jump on one out of the gate.

Update on my above post regarding first impressions.

    1. No change.
    2. Had a chat conversation with an HP sales rep who told me that both the 15" and 17" models with the GTX 1060 GPU support Max Q technology. I asked her to point me to something in writing but she couldn't at this time. Would be an interesting option to get 1080 performance with a 1060 GPU though.
    3. Sales rep also stated the 17" model DOES include a DVD drive even though the sales information on the configurable systems states it does not.

Thinking of placing an order tonight for a 17" with a 1060. They have a 30 day return policy and the sales rep sent me an email transcript of our conversation so if she was incorrect on either the optical drive info or about the Max Q tech I always have that to fall back on to validate reasoning for a return.

??? How would you ever get GTX 1080 performance with a 1060 GPU???o_O

I think you might be confused as to what Max-Q really is

Mine is going back. To loud in low load scenarios, quite decent otherwise. But fans spin up way to easily and are way to high pitched for my liking.

Kids these days have wet tissue eardrums.

This is the kind of problem that's plaguing the laptop market, people wanting silence, good cooling, and a twisted law of physics.
