I just got an Omen a few days ago. I like mine too! Haven't had any issues to speak of yet.

The only things I don't particularly care for are:

the red backlight and the red WASD keys, as if we couldn't find them without them being red. I kind of hope/wish that I could swap the keyboard out for one that's not so flashy.

    and

It's also quite the fingerprint magnet. Mine looks like I've been eating greasy pizza all over the keyboard and wrist pad.

So on the other hand, the keyboard is nice to type on.

The fans aren't loud and annoying as yet. I previously had a Clevo/Sager and it was such a pain in the butt with fans and noise. Playing any game on my old Sager/Clevo caused the fans to go wild and be extremely noisy.

The screen is very nice. Crisp, clear, and bright.

Despite it being ~8 pounds, it's comfortable sitting on my lap for extended periods of time.

I still need to figure out how to open up my HP Omen, I have the model w200na- earlier model design to the dragon red style gaming laptop out at the moment. I want to upgrade the SSD m.2 drive to a 512 GB one. 128 GB is to small I feel. Any tips or suggestions on how to pry open the HP Omen 17 earlier model would be greatly appreciated. :)

I think I finally found the correct thread!

I recently bought the "OMEN by HP 15-ax250wm Laptop" on clearance for what I think is a crazy good deal. It was $499, but then it was a display model so it came out to $486 after tax!

The specs are as follows: (speccy)
    Operating System
    Windows 10 Home 64-bit
    CPU
    Intel Core i7 7700HQ @ 2.80GHz 48 °C
    Kaby Lake 14nm Technology
    RAM
    12.0GB Dual-Channel Unknown @ 1197MHz (17-17-17-39)
    Motherboard
    HP 8259 (U3E1) 53 °C
    Graphics
    Generic PnP Monitor (1920x1080@60Hz)
    Intel HD Graphics 630 (HP)
    4095MB NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 Ti (HP) 39 °C
    ForceWare version: 388.13
    SLI Disabled
    Storage
    931GB Hitachi HGST HTS721010A9E630 (SATA) 27 °C
    Optical Drives
    No optical disk drives detected
    Audio
    Realtek High Definition Audio

Any tips for a newcomer to this machine? Anything I should uninstall right away? Plenty of HP bloatware and automatically installing games to sort through. Anyone have experience with undervolt or overclocking with this? I'll start going through the huge amount of info in this thread :D

I'm going to be adding in an m.2 SSD for the OS. This is the first time I've used windows in a few years on a standard HDD and it is jarring!
    Thx!

I benched it a bit. It struggles to hit 60 FPS on Rise of the Tomb Raider, but maxes out MGSV:The Phantom Pain. Everything that wasn't super intensive works amazing as well. Really satisfied for what I paid.

When I looked at the warranty info, it says I only have 10 months remaining. Is there a way to have the warranty registered to my account and updated to my actual purchase date (like Dell does, previous alienware owner).

Overall I am really liking the laptop. Keyboard is nice and material isn't as receptive to finger prints. It also doesn't look insane like my alienware did! I plan on using this for environmental work with GIS software and some moderate gaming.

I just got HP Omen 17 with RX580 and other than no SSD I love it. It was a great laptop and have enjoyed using it. Will eventually get an m.2 NVME ssd at some point.
